Could Megyn Kelly Replace Matt Lauer On The Today Show?

Shock waves were sent through the journalism world Wednesday morning when news broke that longtime “Today” show host Matt Lauer was fired from NBC following accusations of sexual misconduct.

As details about the shocking allegations continue to emerge, questions are turning to who could possibly replace Lauer, who was the cornerstone of the “Today” show for 17 years. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, people are already speculating that the network could turn to Fox News reject Megyn Kelly.

Kelly already hosts a morning show on NBC – a move up to “Today” wouldn’t be that big of a jump. In fact, it seems that Kelly is already prepping herself for the promotion. Wednesday morning on “Megyn Kelly Today,” she delivered an impassioned monologue saying that the accusations against Lauer “hit close to home.”

“I, too, have known Matt for a long time and he has been a friend and kind and supportive to me in my transition to NBC News, and I see the anguish on my colleagues faces,” Kelly said. But she also made it clear that her sympathy lies with the accusers: “What we don’t see is the pain on the faces of those who found the courage to come forward, and it is a terrifying thing to do. We don’t see the career opportunities women lose because of sexual harassment or the intense stress it causes a woman dealing with it when she comes to work each day. I am thinking of those women this morning and hoping they are okay. The days to come will not be easy.”

Lest we forget, Kelly accused Fox News big wigs Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly of sexual harassment before leaving the conservative network. It certainly would be just peachy for her if she managed to land a spot on “Today” as a result of another man’s sexual deviance.
