Meghan McCain Takes A Stand For Trump Voters As She Returns To ‘The View’

Meghan McCain returned to the ABC talk show “The View” on Monday for the first time since giving birth to her daughter back in September, and she wasted no time telling her liberal cohosts that Americans need to be more respectful to those who voted for Donald Trump this past election.

Meghan McCain Defends Trump Supporters

Though McCain is an outspoken never-Trump Republican herself, she is still disturbed by the way Trump voters are treated by the media. She specifically took issue with a comment her cohost Sunny Hostin recently made in which she suggested that Trump was attempting a “coup.”

“I think that rhetoric is dangerous. … There is not going to be martial law, things like that just scare people,” McCain said.

“The rhetoric in the media needs to be more respectful of Trump voters, and I think that’s how we got to this place to begin with,” she added. “Going forward in 2021, I think that we need to be respectful of the 70 million Americans that for whatever reason did not feel that they could in good faith, pull the trigger for a President Biden and Vice President Harris.”

Not stopping there, McCain went on to say that she knows “people that quietly voted for Trump” because they were afraid of being shamed.

“That don’t want to be yelled at, that don’t want to be called racist,” McCain said. “The election should not have been this close.”

McCain’s Liberal Cohosts Fire Back

Her cohost Whoopi Goldberg fired back by saying that Trump supporters must also treat Joe Biden and his supporters with respect.

“Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose,” Goldberg said. “We lost four years ago, now he lost this year. You’re not allowed to kvetch and poop all over this. This is not the American way.”

This comes after McCain’s super-liberal cohost Joy Behar tried to shame Trump’s supporters immediately after the election.

“A lot of people in this country need to have a come-to-Jesus moment and look in the mirror and see what they did,” Behar said.

“Again, we don’t call people names but look in the mirror and say, ‘Did I vote because of my pocketbook and did I ignore the fact that children are being separated from their parents? Did I vote because I don’t want Black people moving into the suburbs and ignore the fact that Black people are always behind the eight ball in this country and can’t get a leg up because of my vote?’” she added. “People need to look in the mirror.”
