You May Have Missed This GREAT News Amid Obama’s Gun Control Speech

Gun Control

On the same day that President Obama met with his Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss new gun control executive orders, and just three days before the first-ever nationally televised presidential townhall on gun control takes place, the FBI released the background check numbers for gun sales for 2015.

By all estimations, it shattered previous records.

Gun Control

According to the Washington Times:

A record number of firearms background checks were conducted by the FBI in 2015 — equating to roughly 44 every minute.

The agency reported Monday that it conducted a total of 23,141,970 checks last year, eclipsing the prior yearly record of roughly 21.1 million checks set in 2013.

The background checks are conducted through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System for gun purchases from federal firearms licensees and for permits to carry guns, and while the checks serve as an indicator of gun sale trends in the U.S., each check does not always equate to a sale.

Of course, it’s likely, even more guns were sold than the number of background checks indicated. More than one gun can be sold on one check, and in many states, the tens of millions of Americans who have concealed carry permits are exempt from the background checks.
