Congresswoman Maxine Waters slammed President Donald Trump over his feud with Democrat Rep. Frederica Wilson over the call he made to a Gold Star widow. And, of course, she included the usual cry of racism.
“I think that goes along with it. He seems to have this tendency to talk down to people of color, to treat them with disrespect. And I think this adds to it,” Waters told MSNBC.
Last Wednesday, Wilson told NBC Miami that she heard Trump say disrespectful words to Sgt. La David T. Johnson’s widow, Myeshia, over speakerphone. Sgt. Johnson was one of the four elite U.S. soldiers killed in Niger earlier this month.
Wilson claimed that Trump said Johnson “knew what he signed up for” and “didn’t even remember his name.” “He was almost like joking,” she said. Wilson also told CNN that Myeshia was “very distraught after the call.”
Trump denied the charges, and fired back.
Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly later gave an emotional statement to the press, saying he was “stunned” by Wilson’s claims. He said he was “brokenhearted” by the criticism, and that he had personally advised Trump on what to say before calling the families of the four fallen soldiers. Kelly said he encouraged Trump to echo words Gen. Joseph Dunford offered to Kelly when his own son was killed in Afghanistan.
Wilson responded bizarrely, laughing about the situation.
But back to the “substance” – or lack thereof – in Waters’s charge of racism. It’s not an uncommon charge anytime Trump criticizes a person who happens to be a minority.
Trump and the White House have an unmistakable pattern of going after prominent black women. https://t.co/jDr8l2Igp1

If Trump isn't racist, why does he so often attack black people but defend Nazis?https://t.co/Gk4FXkJAm6#resist #jemelehill #Obama #FredericaWilson #SundayMorning

It’s a bizarre claim to make, because it completely ignores that when it comes to criticism, an old adage rings true: “I am free of all prejudices. I hate everyone equally.”
When it comes to white people that Trump has criticized since beginning his campaign, here’s just a short list….
Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Megyn Kelly, Jeff Bezos, Jeb Bush, Glenn Beck, Joy Behar, Michael Barbaro, Paul Begala, George W. Bush, Michael Bloomberg, Alec Baldwin, John O. Brennan, Lincoln Chafee, S.E. Cupp, Graydon Carter, Carl Cameron, Anderson Cooper, Amy Chozick, Alisyn Camerota, Katie Couric, the entire staff of CNBC, CNN, Buzzfeed, and the New York Times, Mary Katherine Ham, Kasie Hunt, John Harwood, Dan Henninger, Brit Hume, Hugh Hewitt, Penn Jilette, Woody Johnson, Tim Kaine, Bob Corker, Jill Colvin, John King, Charles Kohn, John Kasich, Rich Lowry, Frank Luntz, John Legere, Ruth Marcus, Joe and Mike from MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Bradley/Chelsea Manning, Michael J. Morell, Andew McCabe, Lisa Murkowski, Mitch McConnell, John Oliver, Shep Smith…… OK, get the picture?
Clearly, when it comes to Trump’s blistering criticism, racism isn’t a factor.
