Masks Coming Back: CDC Set To Recommend Masks Indoors For Fully Vaccinated People

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is expected to recommend Tuesday that fully vaccinated Americans wear masks indoors under certain circumstances.
The decision marks a reversal of guidance provided by the agency back in May when they declared that vaccinated Americans did not have to wear a mask either indoors or outdoors in most circumstances.
Sources have indicated to CNBC that fully vaccinated individuals will be asked to mask up in COVID hotspots.
“Federal health officials still believe fully vaccinated individuals represent a very small amount of transmission,” the sources claim, according to the network.
“Still, some vaccinated people could be carrying higher levels of the virus than previously understood and potentially transmit it to others,” they added.

CDC To Recommend Masks Indoors For Vaccinated
White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci suggested over the weekend that the CDC was considering the move.
“It’s a dynamic situation. It’s a work in progress, it evolves like in so many other areas of the pandemic,” Fauci said. “You’ve got to look at the data.”
People that have received full vaccinations can still get sick experts say, but the risk of developing a severe case of COVID is diminished significantly.
The reversal on mask recommendations comes as the ‘Delta variant’ is causing a spike in COVID cases throughout the country.
The WH source says the specific language for the CDC recommendation is still being finalized and that the recommendation may land only on fully vaccinated people wearing masks indoors when out in public if living with immunocompromised people.

What Else Is Being Considered?
Some of the other recommendations being considered by the CDC according to some reporters are a bit head-scratching.
PBS White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor, for example, tweeted that one of the special circumstances that could lead to a mask recommendation is if a person is “living with/in close contact (with) immunocompromised ppl or unvaccinated ppl such as kids under 12.”
Are they really considering asking vaccinated Americans to wear a mask in the same home as their children if they hadn’t gotten the vaccine?
A WH source confirms:
CDC is expected to recommend today that ppl vaccinated for COVID *resume wearing masks* indoors under certain circumstances. Those circumstances include: If living with/in close contact w/ immunocompromised ppl or unvaccinated ppl such as kids under 12.

Bear in mind, that is a “confirmed” White House source saying the CDC is considering a radical change to their masking recommendations.
Masks around your unvaccinated children weren’t even a requirement before the announcement in May according to a snapshot of the CDC website.
You can gather indoors with unvaccinated people from one other household (for example, visiting with relatives who all live together) without masks, unless any of those people or anyone they live with has an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
Additionally, CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins is reporting that the agency will recommend masks for all children in schools “regardless of vaccination status.”
More news: The CDC will also announce today that they are recommending everyone in K-12 schools wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status, a health official tells me.

According to an NBC News report last week, former officials from the Obama administration are urging the Biden administration to issue vaccine mandates once the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) grants full approval to one or more of the shots.
U.S. could see a wave of Covid-19 vaccine mandates as soon as the FDA grants full approval to one or more of the shots, public health experts predict. https://t.co/M17IvmOSOT

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell warned that failure to get vaccinated against COVID-19 amidst a rise in positive cases would lead to a return of lockdown orders.
“These shots need to get in everybody’s arms as rapidly as possible,” McConnell said, “or we’re going to be back in a situation in the fall that we don’t yearn for — that we went through last year.”
“This is not complicated,” he added.

Also last week, six Texas Democrats who took a maskless flight out of state became victims of their own superspreader event, testing positive for COVID despite reportedly being fully vaccinated.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki has said unvaccinated individuals “should be more fearful” as the Delta variant has created a spike in cases.
