The late night comedian John Oliver is offering Clarence Thomas $1 million a year and a $2.4 million motor coach to “get the f*** off the Supreme Court.”
Oliver Makes Thomas An Offer
Daily Mail reported that Oliver made the offer during Sunday night’s episode of his HBO show “Last Week Tonight,” giving Thomas just thirty days to accept it. This came after an investigation revealed that Thomas allegedly did not declare dozens of lavish trips and expenses paid for by the Republican billionaire Harlan Crow.
“Lot on your plate right now, from stripping away women’s rights to hearing January 6 cases … and you deserve a break, you know, away from the meanness of Washington,” Oliver began. “So you can be surrounded by the regular folks whose lives you made demonstrably worse for decades.”
“So that’s the offer. $1 million a year, Clarence. And a brand new condo on wheels. And all you have to do in return is sign the contract and get the f‑‑‑ off the Supreme Court,” Oliver continued. “Talk it over with your totally best friend in the whole world. Because the clock starts now. Thirty days, Clarence … Let’s do this!”
Not stopping there, Oliver proceeded to double down.
“I think you’re thinking, what would my friend say if I take this offer? Will they judge me as they sit in their boardrooms and mega yachts and Hitler shrines? Will they still treat me to luxury vacations and sing songs about me off their phones?” Oliver said. “Well, that’s the beauty of friendship, Clarence. If they’re real friends, they’ll love you no matter what your job is. So I guess this might be the perfect way to find out who your real friends actually are. ”
Thomas Investigation
This came after ProPublica found that Thomas had failed to disclose luxury trips and other benefits that he received from the conservative billionaire Crow. The publication’s investigation concluded that Crow had paid roughly $100,000 in tuition for Thomas’ grand-nephew, who the justice was raising like a son, to attend Hidden Lake Academy and Randolph-Macon Academy, a military school that the billionaire attended himself.
ProPublica also found that Crow had purchased the home that Thomas’ mother was living in, as well as two other properties on that same block. In 1984, Thomas inherited one-third of the trio of properties, his mother’s residence and two additional houses in Savannah, Georgia. In 2014, Crow, “a longtime friend of filer and his wife” bought the houses for $133,000, buying other properties on the street at the same time.
“Filer and his wife had put between $50,000 and $75,000 into his mother’s home in capital improvements over the years, and therefore, the transaction amounted to a capital loss,” reads the disclosure.
Oliver Claims What He’s Doing Is Legal
Fox News reported that Oliver claims to have spoken to legal experts who allegedly assured him that he was not breaking any laws by offering to pay Thomas.
“Which seems crazy to me because it really feels like it shouldn’t be. But as they keep pointing out, there are no rules in place to stop me from doing this. And let me be clear: HBO is not putting up the money for this. I am personally on the hook,” he said. “You can make me really regret this. I could be doing standup tours to pay for your retirement for years.”
“Clarence Thomas is arguably the most consequential justice on the court right now, and he’s never really seemed to like the job. He said, ‘It’s not worth doing for the grief.’ So, what if he can keep the luxury perks he clearly enjoys without having to endure all of that grief,” he stated earlier in the segment. “If you watch our show, you know jokes aren’t really our thing. This is real. A million dollars a year until you or I die.”
There’s nobody liberals despise more than a black conservative, as their very existence undermines the leftwing claim that all Republicans are inherently racist, which is why Thomas has been a target of the left for decades. Thomas has yet to respond to Oliver’s offer, and we highly doubt that he will decide to even give it the time of day.
