School Shooting in Benton, Kentucky

Tragic news this morning as we’re getting reports of a school shooting currently occurring in Benton, Kentucky.

The shooting happened in Marshall County High School. Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has confirmed that one student has been killed in the shooting. He took to Twitter to deliver the news, also confirming that multiple people were injured in the incident. The Governor is urging people not to spread false information or speculate about the incident. Here is the tweet:

FOX 17 News spoke with Kentucky State Police who confirm there was “an incident” that is no longer active. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department said there are multiple reported injuries.

FOX 17 News spoke with a business across the street that confirmed there were multiple agencies outside of the high school.

CNN provides more details on the shooting:

Marshall County High School is in Benton, Kentucky. All officers at the Benton Police Department office inside City Hall left to go to the scene, Benton City Clerk Beth Cooper told CNN.

The school is currently on lockdown with many ambulances on the scene.

Yesterday, we reported on a school shooting in Texas. These are truly sad days for our nation. The best thing we can do in these situations is offer thoughts and prayers for the victims.
