For the first Muslim in Congress, his fellow Democrats surely did a poor job vetting the man. Rep. Keith Ellison’s past ties to the black-separatist Nation of Islam have made him an easy target for critics, though he now claims to distance himself from the “bigoted and anti-Semitic” organization.
That’s hardly it, though. While in law school in 1990, Ellison published a column accusing his university’s president of silencing the free speech of black students by openly criticizing a controversial speaker invited to speak on campus by the African Student Cultural Center. That speaker was Kwame Ture, who had publicly claimed that Zionists had collaborated with the Nazis in World War II.
What a guy!
Even the left-of-center Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said that Ellison’s comments about Israel should have disqualified him from the position that he now holds, citing his “deeply disturbing and disqualifying” past statements about Israel.
Today, he’s known as “CAIR’s Congressman,” CAIR being the “Council on American Islamic Relations.” They too have faced accusations of radical ties, and are even designated a terrorist group in the United Arab Emirates (a nation that themselves allows the death penalty for apostasy, adultery, and homosexuality) due to the group’s alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
For as much as he’d like to downplay any radical views that he personally may have, one need look no further than his supporters to see what kind of person is attracted to Ellison.
According to the Daily Wire,
An official at an anti-Semitic organization donated thousands of dollars to Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) last year.
Taher Herzallah is the associate director of outreach and grassroots organizing at “the anti-Israel American Muslims for Palestine group who openly advocates for violence against the Jewish state,” The Washington Free Beacon reported. Campaign disclosure documents show that Herzallah donated $2,500 to Ellison in 2017.
Herzallah is known most for being one of 11 Irvine students sentenced to three years probation for disrupting the speech of then-Israeli ambassador Michael Oren. Just weeks before his donation to Ellison, he was arrested for disrupting the confirmation hearings of U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman.
Among the Beacon’s other findings included:
- Herzallah has in recent years openly advocated for using violence to destroy Israel, saying in 2014 that “the State of Israel is a lie” and “Israelis have to be bombed.”
- Herzallah backs up his calls for violence by arguing “the only language that the state of Israel understands is that of resistance.”
- Herzallah has also proposed establishing “an Islamic State” to “use violent means to resist occupation.”
Of the 535 members of the House and Senate, there was one politician whom this guy saw it worth donating to, and that was Keith Ellison.
