Kansas University Faculty Members Go After ‘Bastion of Bigotry’ Chick-fil-A

Kansas University has some faculty members who would like to banish a campus Chick-fil-A to the basement because they believe it threatens “the mental well being” of some students and others.

Fox News reports that they don’t believe Chick-fil-A represents the “safety and inclusion” of students.

‘Bastion of Bigotry’

The Sexuality & Gender Diversity Faculty and Staff Council called the popular fast food franchise a “bastion of bigotry” after it left KU’s basement to a better and more visible location that the council calls “prime real estate.”

The anti-Chick-fil-A faculty members are also angry the restaurant is sponsoring the “Chick-fil-A Coin Toss” before every home game for the school’s Jayhawks football games.

“The culture of Chick-fil-A fosters hate and discrimination on multiple levels,” the council stated in a two-page letter that suggests KU is  “more concerned about money and corporate sponsorship than the physical, emotional, and mental well being of marginalized and LGBTQ people.”

‘The Arrival of Chick-fil-A in This Building is Insulting’

“The arrival of Chick-fil-A in this building is insulting, counterproductive and unacceptable,” the letter also said.  “While we recognize that contractual obligations did not allow the complete removal of the brand from campus, we are outraged that they have been allowed to move from the Wescoe Underground to a new, bigger, more central location on the University of Kansas campus.”

All of this stems from Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy stating years ago his support for traditional marriage while also being a donor to the conservative Family Research Council and one of the country’s oldest charities, The Salvation Army.

Pushing back against the anti-Chick-fil-A contingent, KU’s College Republicans urged everyone to sign a petition to keep the restaurant on campus

“Tell our university administration that our community wants Chick-fil-A on this campus,” the conservative youth group wrote.

PC Always Wins On Today’s Campuses

Not surprisingly given the political correctness that is rampant on today’s campuses, Interim Provost Carl Lejuez seems to be agreeing with the upset faculty members. Fox News, reported that Lejuez sent an email to faculty and students that read:

“Moving forward, I believe it is important to have thoughtful discussion and deliberation when we enter into contracts. In the future, we will do so in a manner that is transparent and informed by our commitment to affirm diversity and to be a welcoming and inclusive campus.”

This is a ridiculous capitulation. If Chick-fil-A merely having a CEO who believes in traditional values is enough to get kicked off campus, what does that say about freedom of expression and thought in this country?

Hell, what does it say about real diversity?
