Joy Reid Rushes To Defend Kamala Harris For Not Going To Border – ‘Perhaps An Unpopular Opinion’

MSNBC host Joy Reid rushed to defend Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday for not visiting the border despite the fact that President Joe Biden has put her in charge of the crisis that is happening there.

Reid Defends Harris

“This is perhaps an unpopular opinion in the business right now but I think we need to have some perspective,” Reid said on her show.

Reid, who is a known radical liberal, went on to praise Harris for going to Guatemala before launching into what she herself admitted was a rant detailing the United States’ “long sordid torrid history” with Central America.

“The United States’ southern border with Mexico is not the only important issue that matters to the world,” the MSNBC host said. “Those seven countries have a long history with the United States, much of it troubling. The United States used much of Central America as essentially a giant plantation. Google the United Fruit Company. We have a long, sordid, torrid history with this region.”

“There’s a whole history that long precedes people arriving at the border between Mexico and the United States,” she added. “And to reduce what we just heard, ten minutes of that, to ‘Are you going to the border?’ to me — strikes me, personally, as missing a huge opportunity.”

Reid Doubles Down

Harris headed to Guatemala after President Alejandro Giammattei blamed Joe Biden’s administration for the increased number of migrants journeying to the U.S. Reid claimed that Harris made the right decision in going to Guatemala because going to the border would be nothing more than a “photo-op.”

“Had to get this out tonight, y’all,”  Reid tweeted. “Because the @vp doing a photo op at the border is NOT the be-all and end-all of addressing the MULTIPLE ISSUES facing the Central American region that long precede migration. We need a comprehensive regional solution, not just a border visit.”

Harris Gets Called Out

This came hours after Harris was called out for not visiting the border by NBC anchor Lester Holt.

“Do you have plans to visit the border?” Holt asked, to which Harris responded, “We’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border.”

“You haven’t been to the border,” Holt corrected her.

“And I haven’t been to Europe,” Harris said with a laugh. “I don’t understand the point you’re making.”
