What did John Kerry know and when did he know it?

That’s the question on the minds of the members of the House Intelligence Committee, specifically regarding the infamous “Trump dossier” developed by ex-British spy Christopher Steele.

Independent investigator Sara Carter reports:

The House Select Committee on Intelligence is now investigating former Secretary of State John F. Kerry’s possible role into the unverified dossier paid for by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton Campaign, this reporter has learned. The dossier, assembled by a former British spy, laid the foundation for the FBI’s investigation into alleged collusion between President Trump and Russia and was the essential piece of evidence used by the FBI to get a warrant to spy on a former volunteer for the Trump campaign.

The investigation was launched in light of a strange op-ed published by The Washington Post last Friday. Penned by a long-time State Department bureaucrat, Jonathan Winer, the article revealed that Winer not only had a friendship with Steele, but was made aware of the dossier sometime in the autumn of 2016. Winer writes, “In September 2016, Steele and I met in Washington and discussed the information now known as the ‘dossier.’ Steele’s sources suggested that the Kremlin not only had been behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign but also had compromised Trump and developed ties with his associates and campaign.”

Winer would later pass this information up the food chain in the State Department, eventually making it to Kerry.

Winer also revealed his friendship with Sidney Blumenthal, the well-known Clinton hatchetman, who also had knowledge of another dossier. John Kerry reportedly reviewed that second dossier.

Now Winer maintains that the Nunes memo, which outlined possible FBI abuse of evidence in regards to the FISA court, is much ado about nothing. But his personal friendship with Steele has led to many questions about his judgement.

No matter, as House Intelligence Committee members have extended their investigation to John Kerry, and the entire State Department. It looks like more people knew about the discredited dossier than previously known.

So why are we only hearing about all of it now?
