Joe Scarborough Tells Trump Immigration Is a ‘Losing Issue’

On MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Monday, host Joe Scarborough said that Donald Trump’s insistence on addressing the illegal immigration crisis might be a problem in the 2020 election, even calling it “a losing issue” for the president.

While Scarborough acknowledged that Trump’s immigration fight will no doubt play well in more conservative states, the host said the president’s poll numbers have “plummeted” in other important states.

“This is not going to help him where he needs to expand his electorate,” Scarborough said. “[H]e lost more members of his own party than any Republican president since Richard Nixon was driven from office in Watergate, months after Watergate.”

“This, let me say it slowly for Donald, this is a losing issue,” Scarborough said, mockingly. “You have your 34, 35 percent, Donald.”

“This is a losing issue,” he finished.

Is It Really a ‘Losing Issue?’

While some polls have shown that Americans are mostly split on the need for a U.S.-Mexico border wall, most do see illegal immigration as a serious problem.

Most importantly, they also see Republicans as the only party willing to do anything about it. As Rasmussen Reports reported on Friday:

“Voters continue to view illegal immigration as a serious problem but don’t think Democrats want to stop it… A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 67% of all Likely U.S. Voters think illegal immigration is a serious problem in America today, with 47% who say it’s a Very Serious one. Thirty-two percent (32%) say it’s not a serious problem, but that includes only eight percent (8%) who rate it as Not At All Serious.”

So… and I’m going to say this very slowly for Joe Scarbrough… if “67% of all Likely U.S. Voters think illegal immigration is a serious problem in America today,” and “47% say it’s a Very Serious one,” and most perceive the Democrats as being unwilling to do anything about it…

…Don’t you think this bodes well for Trump in the next election? The one man in Washington who has been willing to do anything about this problem?

Maybe, Joe, NOT talking about our illegal immigration would become “a losing issue?”
