Jimmy Kimmel’s Ratings Slide Following Political Rants

Late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel has become increasingly political on his show, first addressing attempts to repeal Obamacare (which he opposed), and now calling for more gun control following the massacre in Las Vegas.

When a late night host like Stephen Colbert or Jimmy Fallon gets political, they already know where their audience stands – with them. Colbert’s audience, for example, is 47 percent Democrat to only 17 percent Republican. Hosts like Colbert are not going to alienate many of their viewers by taking left-wing stances.

Kimmel, on the other hand, has an audience that’s split among partisan lines. Thirty-four percent of his audience are Democrats, compared to 33% Republicans. And because of that, his partisan moralizing has caused his audience to shrink.

According to Louder With Crowder, “Their flight may have already begun. ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ had 2.04 million viewers last week during the heart of his health care fight, a 5 percent drop from his average. For the show’s future, it’s more than appreciable.”

And not only that, his political rants aren’t even factual. Playing Kimmel’s opening monologue line by line, CRTV host Steven Crowder responded to each of Kimmel’s assertions to highlight the false premises and lack of accuracy.

Crowder began with Kimmel’s statement that “we’ll never know why a human being would do something like this to other human beings.”

“It’s a really simple answer why,” responded Crowder. “It’s called evil.”

Crowder then addressed Kimmel’s argument (which is quite common) that the founding fathers never intended the Second Amendment for the array of modern firearms available. By that logic, the First Amendment doesn’t protect freedom of speech on the internet, which didn’t exist at the time.

Kimmel also makes a comment about Americans’ reactions to “a guy with a beard” committing an act of terror, trying to make the point that if a Muslim committed a mass public shooting, we’d have seen strict gun control implemented by now. I guess he missed the Fort Hood massacre, the San Bernardino shooting, and the Pulse Nightclub shooting? Regardless, ISIS has shown that they don’t need guns, given that in Europe they’ve killed many more people with trucks than have been killed in any American mass public shooting.

The rest of Kimmel’s arguments, which you can see refuted by Crowder below, aren’t much better.
