Hillary Clinton Says Take Trump ‘At His Word’ That He Would Be a ‘Dictator On Day One’

In early December, the media concocted another Donald Trump ‘controversy’ by portraying a joke he made out of context. The former President had joked that he would be a dictator “but only on day one” of a second presidency, referring to the newly sworn-in President’s modern tradition of setting policy with executive orders.

Hillary Clinton thinks we should take him seriously.

A Dictator? Seriously?

The Hill reports:

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday said voters should take former President Trump “for his word,” regarding his recent comments about being a dictator for a day if reelected in 2024.

Clinton was writing in response to Sen. Brian Schatz’s (D-Hawaii) post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, reading, “Trump is now repeatedly saying he’s going to be a dictator on day one and I don’t think we should keep asking what that means. That’s what he means.”

In a five-word response on X, Clinton wrote, “Take him at his word.”

Interestingly, Hillary had spent much of the earlier years of her feud telling people not to trust anything Trump said and to never take him at his word. This is apparently a matter of trust-when-convenient.

The Hill continued, giving context, “Trump came under fire earlier this month after he told Fox News host Sean Hannity at an Iowa town hall he did not plan on being a dictator if reelected to the White House, ‘except for day one.”

“He says, ‘You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?’ I said, no, no, no — other than day one. We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator,” Trump continued.

Presidents have, in modern times, used the first day in office and a series of executive orders to direct executive personnel on how to carry out existing law within the President’s priorities.

According to CNN, President Biden issued over 60 executive actions in just his first 100 days.

So Much For Hitler Predictions

Many Republicans dismissed the comments as Democrats insisted that such language only showed that Trump intends to become an authoritarian president if he wins in 2024.

It should be noted that Democrats accused Trump of wanting to become like Nazi leader Adolph Hitler in the 2016 White House campaign, but that concern never came to fruition.
