Flashback: Hillary Immigrant Children ‘Should be Sent Back’

Hillary Clinton immigrant children

Hillary Clinton started the month by blasting the reports that the children of illegal immigrants are being separated from families at the border. This is only happening to illegals that are then being prosecuted for illegal entry, and their children are held in the custody of the HHS.

I’m honestly not sure what she thinks the alternative is. Are we supposed to allow their children to accompany them as they’re in police custody? In jail awaiting trial?  These cases tend to be resolved “exceptionally quick” regardless, in the words of National Review’s Rich Lowry. Regardless, everyone crossing the border knows the consequences, and the stricter the consequences, the fewer that cross. Even Hillary Clinton acknowledged as much during a town hall with CNN back in 2014.

“We have to send a clear message, just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay,” Hillary said. “So, we don’t want to send a message that is contrary to our laws or will encourage more children to make that dangerous journey.” In other words: deterrence works.

CNN’s Christiane Amanpour then asked: “So, you’re saying they should be sent back now?

Hillary replied, “Well, they should be sent back as soon as it can be determined who responsible adults in their families are because there are concerns whether all of them should be sent back. But I think all of them who can be should be reunited with their families.”

That all sounds suspiciously sensible and given that Hillary’s comments didn’t lead to endless media coverage about how Hillary wanted to “rip families apart,” perhaps those in the media really do know better.

And speaking of Clintons, the rhetoric of Bill, when he was President really, wasn’t much different than Trump’s (in terms of their end-goal of border security, increased deportations, and cracking down on illegal hiring):

It’s truly a sad state for the media when a President Hillary could enact identical policies as Trump, and be praised instead of compared to Hitler.
