If you ask any so-called feminist out there, they’ll tell you that 2017 was a terrible year for women, mostly due to the fact that Donald Trump was inaugurated as president of the United States. People like known terrorist Linda Sarsour kicked off the year by encouraging women to show their disdain for half of America by wearing genitalia hats and marching through the streets of Washington, while two-time failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton ended the year still blaming everyone else for her loss.
So, in keeping with that theme of everything is terrible and the world must be ending, The Daily Show decided it was appropriate to include a “Song For Women 2017” in their year-end special. In the song, Daily Show correspondents Desi Lydic and Dulcé Sloan sing about positive things that happened for women in 2017 – like Saudi women being able to drive and Wonder Woman breaking box office records – but they also knock NBC’s Megyn Kelly, singing, “Megyn Kelly went to NBC from Fox, $17 million for a show that sucks.”
And, because it’s The Daily Show, the political overtones in the skit are nothing short of obnoxious. It’s painfully clear that Lydic is playing the role of the aloof white woman while Sloan is the “woke” woman of color. At one point, “DJ Mansplain” turns up and raps about “what really happened” in 2017. “Men are from Mars, women – they’re from Venus, nobody likes a surprise p***s,” DJ Mansplain rapped. “But maybe you asked for it, it’s kinda on you. We men are dumb, we can’t control what we do.”
But the most ridiculous part of the song is without a doubt the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo from Hillary Clinton. She can be seen for a few seconds gaping her giant maw in a recording booth, but it’s blatantly obvious that she’s not actually doing any singing.
