Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vowed to take executive action to ban the use of “vaccine passports” by businesses or local governments in the Sunshine State.
DeSantis told reporters of his intent to declare an emergency “executive function” to combat the passports, citing his desire to allow people to personally decide whether to get the vaccine.
“We always said we wanted to provide it for all but mandate it for none,” the Republican governor explained. “And that was something that, while it was advised to take particularly if you’re vulnerable, we were not going to force you to do it.”
DeSantis went on to boldly suggest citizens in his state “have certain freedoms and individual liberties” when it comes to attaining vaccination.
“It’s completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply participate in normal society,” he added.

DeSantis Rejects Vaccine Passports
Earlier in March, DeSantis promised Florida is “not doing any vaccine passports,” calling it a “bad idea.”
“Under no circumstances will the state be asking you to show proof of vaccination,” he announced. “That’s not how you get society back to normal so we’re rejecting any vaccine passports here in the state of Florida.”
DeSantis at the time warned that anybody trying to enforce vaccine passports privately would be dealt with by the state.
“I just want to make very clear in Florida, we are not doing any vaccine passports,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said during his news conference on Thursday afternoon. “I think it’s a bad idea. And so that will not happen. pic.twitter.com/2WdcUzdjJO

DeSantis’ defiant stance comes as reports have indicated the Biden administration is working on developing passports for individuals to prove they have been immunized.
A COVID test or vaccination-verification app has already been developed and is being tested on some flights in the state of Hawaii.
The European Union has unveiled a plan to issue “Digital Green Certificates” to all of its citizens.

Mask Mandates And Passports
President Biden on Monday expressed his desire to keep COVID restrictions even as vaccinations are becoming widely available.
He called for mask mandates to be extended or even reimplemented in some states that have already lifted them.
“I’m reiterating my call for every governor, mayor, and local leader to maintain and reinstate the mask mandate,” the President said. “Please, this is not politics. Reinstate the mandate if you let it down.”

Biden had accused red states who were relaxing mask mandates of engaging in “Neanderthal thinking.”
Newsweek reports that the number of COVID cases in one such state – Texas – has dropped to record lows after the mask mandate was lifted.
DeSantis, meanwhile, has celebrated going against what blue states are doing to combat the coronavirus.
“We look around in other parts of our country and in too many places we see schools closed, businesses shuttered and lives destroyed,” he said during his speech at CPAC.
“Florida got it right and the lockdown states got it wrong.”
They continue to get it right.
Now, with DeSantis’ vow to ban vaccine passports, Florida continues to look like America once did before power-hungry Democrats took over during the pandemic.
