New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has won another award for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, despite serious allegations about deadly policies and criticism of his handling of the pandemic.
“Inspired Leadership” From The Governor
Governor Cuomo received an award this week from the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for “Inspired Leadership” for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The award is for leading New York through the coronavirus pandemic and fighting “for social, racial and economic justice for all.”
This is despite serious allegations that his policies led to the deaths of thousands of elderly New Yorkers trapped in nursing homes.
At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Cuomo issued a mandate to nursing homes operated by the state to take in COVID patients, regardless if they had the facilities and equipment to handle the disease or not.

As a result, around 6,326 positive patients were sent back to nursing homes, and New York reported around 6,600 deaths in the homes from the virus. Many of those deaths came from residents who were not positive before the mandate.
Commenters were quick to point out the irony of any “leadership awards” coming from an institute named after Ted Kennedy:
The man who sent 1000s to #COVID death in nursing homes learned about “putting people first” from Ted Kennedy, a man who abandoned a woman to her death after he crashed their car into a pond. Those Cuomo victims & Mary Jo Kopechne can’t comment, but we still can. #disgusting https://t.co/HJkuEbrGTy

This is the second award that Cuomo has received from the establishment.
In November, Cuomo was awarded an Emmy for his “masterful” daily coronavirus briefings.
“The Governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure,” said International Academy President & CEO, Bruce L. Paisner, in a statement at the time.
“People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York tough became a symbol of the determination to fight back.”

A former aide to Cuomo came out this week, and declared that Cuomo’s office was the “most toxic team environment” that she had ever experienced.
“I’ve had many jobs. Waitressing at @Friendlys as a teenager was an infinitely more respectful environment. Even when I had bad customers who tipped poorly,” said Lindsey Boylan. “If people weren’t deathly afraid of him, they’d be saying the same thing and you’d already know the stories,” she added.

Cuomo was also roasted online this week for braggadociously comparing himself and Dr Anthony Fauci to the “modern-day” versions of Robert de Niro and Al Pacino.
A few weeks ago, his nonsensical, COVID restrictions on churches were shot down by the Supreme Court.
This makes sense because at the ends of their movies usually everyone is dead. https://t.co/toSqnDB56w
