GOP Reps. Demand ATF Investigate Hunter Biden For Falsifying Gun Background Check

Republican lawmakers are calling on the President's nominee for ATF Director to investigate Hunter Biden over the possibility he falsified information on a background check to purchase a gun.

Two dozen Republican lawmakers are calling on the President’s nominee for Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Director, David Chipman, to investigate Hunter Biden over the possibility he falsified information on a background check to purchase a gun.

In a letter written by Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) and signed by 23 other congress members, Chipman is requested to, if confirmed to the post at ATF, publicly commit to investigating the President’s son.

A Politico report in March indicated Hunter responded “no” to a question on a Firearms Transaction Record that asks, “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”

Biden was discharged from the Navy Reserve after failing a cocaine test and has an open and well-documented history of drug use.

“Lying on the form is a felony,” Politico reported at the time, “though prosecutions for it are exceedingly rare.”

Republicans Call On Likely ATF Director To Investigate Hunter Biden

In the letter, Good urges Chipman to investigate Hinter Biden, follow the law, and hold everybody equally to the same standard.

“I write to ask that you publicly commit to investigate allegations that Hunter Biden falsified information during a background check in order to illegally obtain a firearm,” the letter states.

“Since lying on a background check form is a felony, this allegation merits investigation,” it continues. “Sadly, lying on background checks is common, often called ‘lying and trying’, but rarely prosecuted.”

“Allegations of this crime are no less serious when leveled at Hunter Biden,” it adds.

A text message from Hunter Biden in 2019 claims his former sister-in-law turned girlfriend, Hallie Biden, stole the gun and threw it in a trash can behind a grocery store.

The Secret Service allegedly became involved, requesting the paperwork involving the sale from the gun store owner.

The store owner declined, Politico reported, “suspecting that the Secret Service officers wanted to hide Hunter’s ownership of the missing gun in case it were to be involved in a crime.”

Chipman Wants A ‘Well-Regulated’ Second Amendment

If Chipman were to commit to his past mantra on the Second Amendment, he shouldn’t oppose a chance to investigate Hunter Biden.

It is, after all, the criminals who lie, cheat, and steal their way to gun ownership who actually give law-abiding gun owners a bad name, forcing them to have their rights reigned in at the hands of gun controllers.

Last January, Chipman argued that the Second Amendment requires firearms to be “well regulated.”

Writing in an op-ed for The Roanoke Times, Chipman argued against local governments declaring themselves ‘Second Amendment sanctuaries.’

“The Second Amendment envisions firearms as being ‘well regulated,’ and individual sheriffs aren’t entitled to decide whether a particular regulation is constitutional—that’s the job of the courts,” he wrote.

Earlier this month, the President announced several executive orders to curb gun rights while pushing Congress to take even further action, including calling for lawmakers to consider legislation banning ‘assault weapons’ and ‘high capacity’ magazines.

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to take up a major NRA-backed case to determine how much the Second Amendment applies outside of the home.
