Willie Nelson and Glen Campbell are two of country’s biggest legends, so fans will be delighted to hear that they’ve released a new duet version of Nelson’s classic ballad, “Funny How Time Slips Away”:
Country music legends Willie Nelson and Glen Campbell took to the recording studio to produce a chilling duet that has left fans emotionally beside themselves. Singing Nelson’s heartbreaking ballad “Funny How Time Slips Away”, the two icons teamed up for their stunning vocal session featured on Campbell’s newly released album Adios. The singer used his final album to record the melodies near and dear to his heart that his career had not yet called for.
“Funny How Time Slips Away” is a great song on its own; but the addition of Campbell’s vocals gives it new emotional depth that’s sure to strike anyone who listens.
The lyrics to the song hit particularly close to home for Campbell, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011. His longtime friend Carl Jackson told Rolling Stone how recording the tune was difficult at times, and magical at others:
I stood right beside him on every line, printed out the lyrics in big print. Sometimes we had to do a line at a time because with Alzheimer’s, his memory of the lyrics, as we saw in the tour he had to use teleprompters, that went away pretty quick. But his melodies did not go away for a long time after his ability to remember actual songs. He would even remember what keys he did them in. I can’t explain it.
Nelson has also recently battled health issues. It’s inspiring to see that two of country’s most beloved stars are still able to make music.
