In his final speech celebrating the 4th of July as President, Donald Trump proposed a ‘National Garden’ replete with statues of American heroes including the nation’s Founding Fathers, Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, and Frederick Douglass.

Joe Biden killed the effort.

Trump made the announcement during a ‘Salute to America’ celebration on July 4th, 2020.

The former president announced an executive order listing the names of those he sought to honor with statues in a proposed “National Garden of American Heroes.”

The original list included 31 historical figures including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and other historical figures including Jackie Robinson and Booker T. Washington, along with the aforementioned group and a host of others, 31 in all.

“Each individual has been chosen for embodying the American spirit of daring and defiance, excellence and adventure, courage and confidence, loyalty and love,” the order read.

Trump’s National Garden of Heroes

Trump was criticized for his selection of those to be honored with statues as being random and unnecessary, at a time when monuments were being torn down by radical leftists.

In fact, he referenced those radicals in his speech, with the proposed National Garden seemingly Trump’s response.

“We will never allow an angry mob to tear down our statues, erase our history, indoctrinate our children, or trample on our freedoms,” he declared.”

“We will safeguard our values, traditions, customs, and beliefs,” added Trump. “We will teach our children to cherish and adore their country so that they can build its future.”

In a follow-up executive order just prior to leaving office on January 8th, 2021, Trump made his list of ‘heroes’ more diverse, offering a list including Democrat presidents John F. Kennedy and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, along with even more historical heroes like Sacagawea, Muhammad Ali, and Sojourner Truth, among many others.

Trump’s final list featured 244 total historical figures.

Biden Killed It

Naturally, celebrating national heroes proved too much for the anti-American left.

Michael Beschloss, NBC News presidential historian, clutched his pearls and declared Trump’s “National Garden of American Heroes” to be Stalin-esque.

“Any American who loves democracy should make sure there is never some official, totalitarian-sounding ‘National Garden of American Heroes,’ with names forced upon us by the federal government,” he wrote.

President Biden found a garden of American heroes to be in opposition to his vision for America as well.

The new President issued his own executive order revoking the “National Garden of Heroes” on May 14th, 2021.

What kind of American leader takes umbrage with statues honoring the “greatest Americans”? Joe Biden, that’s who.
