These FIVE States Say No To Obama’s #SyrianRefugees Program

Syrian Refugees

With the recent attacks in Paris still on the mind of many Americans, five US states (so far) are taking action to prevent Syrian refugees being taken in by the United States from residing within their borders.

The governments of Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, Indiana, and Michigan have announced they will not allow any Syrian refugees to settle within their borders.

Alabama was the first state to announce that they would not be taking in Syrian refugees following the attacks on Paris.

In a letter to President Obama, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the following:

Further, I—and millions of Americans—implore you to halt your plans to accept more Syrian refugees in the United States. A Syrian ‘refugee’ appears to have been part of the Paris terror attack. American humanitarian compassion could be exploited to expose Americans to similar deadly danger.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley said in a statement:

The acts of terror committed over the weekend are a tragic reminder to the world that evil exists and takes the form of terrorists who seek to destroy the basic freedoms we will always fight to preserve. I will not place Alabamians at even the slightest, possible risk of an attack on our people.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder issued a statement on Sunday saying that Michigan, which has the second-largest Muslim population in the United States, would halt any settling of refugees until procedures could be reviewed with the Department of Homeland Security.

“Michigan is a welcoming state and we are proud of our rich history of immigration,” Snyder said in a statement. “But our first priority is protecting the safety of our residents.”

There seems to be a strong chance that at least one of the Paris terrorists was a refugee from Syria who had only been in the country a few weeks before taking part in the attack.
