FBI Arrests Jeffrey Epstein Confidante Ghislaine Maxwell In Sex Trafficking Probe

The British socialite is expected to appear in federal court on Thursday on charges relating to the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein.

The FBI has arrested Jeffrey Epstein’s long-time friend and alleged procurer Ghislaine Maxwell on charges related to a probe by New York federal prosecutors into Epstein’s alleged rampant serial sexual abuse of young girls and women, according to NBC News.

The arrest comes just days before the first anniversary of the wealthy investor Epstein’s own arrest in the case stemming from child sex traffic charges. Epstein, 66, killed himself in a federal jail last August.

The elusive British socialite has been accused of involvement in Epstein’s alleged sexual crimes, and a report by NBC News says she has been arrested on as-yet unspecified charges related to Epstein. She was reportedly arrested at 8:30 a.m. in Bedford, New Hampshire, on arrest affidavits brought by the Southern District of New York.

She is expected to appear in federal court in New Hampshire later Thursday. Typically, a person charged in a federal criminal case is first presented in the federal district in which they were arrested, not necessarily in the district in which they are charged.

The Southern District of New York has scheduled a press conference on Maxwell’s arrest for noon EST Thursday in lower Manhattan.
