Facebook Upholds Ban On Trump – But Says Indefinite Suspension ‘Not Appropriate’

Facebook's Oversight Board said the arbitrary nature of Donald Trump's indefinite ban from the social media platform was "not appropriate," but upheld the move to keep him off the site regardless.

Facebook’s Oversight Board ruled today to keep the ban against former President Donald Trump for another six months.

The tech giant said an indefinite ban from the social media platform was “not appropriate,” but upheld the move to keep him off the site currently.

“The Board has upheld Facebook’s decision on January 7, 2021, to restrict then-President Donald Trump’s access to posting content on his Facebook page and Instagram account,” they wrote in their decision.

The board pressured the Big Tech company to make a more definitive decision within six months and blasted them for not adhering to their own rules.

“Facebook cannot make up the rules as it goes, and anyone concerned about its power should be concerned about allowing this,” a statement reads.

“Having clear rules that apply to all users and Facebook is essential for ensuring the company treats users fairly.”

This has been an ongoing complaint from users on the platform who are temporarily banned for seemingly no reason and are unable to get responses from the company when inquiring about the cause of bans.

Trump’s Facebook Ban Upheld

The Oversight Board disagreed with the company’s decisions regarding Trump.

“It was not appropriate for Facebook to impose the indeterminate and standardless penalty of indefinite suspension,” they wrote.

“Facebook’s normal penalties include removing the violating content, imposing a time-bound period of suspension, or permanently disabling the page and account.”

The platform did neither, instead opting for an indefinite suspension.

The board is calling on Facebook, within six months, to decide whether to end the ban, restrict Trump’s content, or completely delete his accounts.

Republicans were outraged at the Oversight Board’s decision to uphold the ban for another six months.

Former White House chief of staff under Trump, Mark Meadows, said the decision marked “a sad day for America.”

He also warned CEO Mark Zuckerberg that it could also be a sad day for him as well.

“It’s a sad day for Facebook because I can tell you a number of members of Congress are now looking at: Do they break up Facebook? Do they make sure that they don’t have a monopoly?” he warned.

A top Republican consultant told Axios the decision to uphold a ban on the former President of the United States “reaffirms the view that Big Tech is biased against conservatives.”

The Left Agrees With Ban

The decision by the Oversight Board to extend the former President’s ban on Facebook comes just days after Black Lives Matters released a new set of ‘demands’ which included making sure he is “permanently” banned from “all digital media platforms.”

There is no evidence that this swayed their decision as the Board has been reviewing the matter for some time.

Trump issued a statement Wednesday regarding the decision and blasted several major Big Tech companies as “a total disgrace.”

“What Facebook, Twitter, and Google have done is a total disgrace and an embarrassment to our Country,” he railed. “Free Speech has been taken away from the President of the United States because the Radical Left Lunatics are afraid of the truth.”

“These corrupt social media companies must pay a political price,” he added.

Facebook issued its own statement celebrating the Oversight Board’s decision to uphold Trump’s ban.

“As we stated in January, we believe our decision was necessary and right, and we’re pleased the board has recognized that the unprecedented circumstances justified the exceptional measure we took,” Nick Clegg, VP of Global Affairs and Communications, writes.

Trump posted his statement blasting the big tech companies on his very own communications platform. Ironically, it can be shared on both Facebook and Twitter.

  1. Meanwhile, the real criminal, Zuckerberg, is making decisions about a President's ability to be on Facebook, after funneling $400 million into the last, fraudulent election.

  2. Real Americans can’t by bought ! They have common sense. Check out the Rino bank accounts and the liberal left ! They are in it together to bring down our country. To bad some of us left socialism behind in our old country.? Just to start again here !? ?

  3. That's hilarious. We've seen ewer posts, cud-chewer, and ewer claim to have intelligence has been proven to be false. Ewer simply dumbed-down and indoctrinated. No original thought and incapable of Independent thought. Compliant, obedient, and subservient to ewer political leaders.

I didn't think they should've removed The Bloated Orange One. Us leftists had fun on his page with all the Trumpers. We addled their excuse of brains with….FACTS.

  5. Abbie Hoffman

How about The Moral Majority and the stuff they pulled? Like they didn't want to control thoughts and turn this country into a theocracy?

F_artwell Sr. said, for example he wanted the churches to take over the school systems.

  6. And it's a choice one can or cannot make, it's THEIR choice. Unlike you leftiies that want to control others thoughts and actions in once free America.

  7. Oh boy! Another story on Trump, the man you love to hate. Funny, but you ALSO "responded in predictable fashion" with YOUR constant, obsessive, "nonsensical" TDS ranting! What is this now, anti-Trump rant number 1,599,999? And in only 2 months? Hey, just one more, and you'll be at 1,600,000!!!! Go for it, pal (and we all know you will…). Someone out there please call Guinness World Book of Records (if you give a "TIHS", that is)…

  8. No, it isn't a "govt. owned" entity, but it does have to answer to govt. rules and regulations, like 230…and so glad you, being a Marxist, complemented "free enterprise", in your effort to support Facebook's decision to ban Trump! Are you feeling alright?

  9. No, he's a proud capitalist, and it's a business. "Grifting"? If people like what they see, they'll pay, if not…they won't. You see, that's how a business works, but you Marxists only understand freebies and hand-outs, all at OTHER people's expense, risk, and hard work…

  10. Abbie, read about the platform and section 230 before making foolish statements. By the way have you seen twitters numbers, CNN, any left leaning news since Trump left office? You might want to check it out. If or when Trump does create a social media platform he will become even more wealthy than ever before. Count on it.

  11. I dumped all of the social media platforms because of their violations of the platform agreement, which is as sham also. Dump them, otherwise you are supporting their desecration of our constitutional rights. They should have never been given the section 230 agreement. The only reason they were, is because of obvious bribes to politicians on both sides of the aisle. Our "for the people" government vanished long ago. Reagan was the last politician to actually give a dang about we the people until Trump.

Look, ban or not to ban ok, let all the folks that are kneeling at the feet of Maxine Waters Say any thing they want, just make sure it is approved by Facebook's oversight board first.
    Good luck with that.

  13. Grow up – I am starting a campaign to ban the word Muslim just because it offends the ants on my porch working hard to rebuild their little house after i swept my porch – hmm – sounds like working people – not blowhards and lets ban you and the only intelligent thing you said is "not a government owned entity" – unlike some people who believe their whole lives and everyone elses should be run by government (take a hint from your own words)

  14. I know – lets ban you because we don't like what you say or ban potatoes because they are Irish and ban Mr. n Mrs. potato head because they offend the Irish and the word short because it offends the vertically challenged – Shut up, Grow up and get a job before I make my list longer and never ending like u omg people do

  15. I have canceled my Facebook account. I can not stand the bully sucker burg he is a tiny Hitler. Everyone really Facebook is nothing more than a faceless bully system. Please dump it now. Get your kids off of it. And all of the media these people use to control us and bully us. Take a good look at what it really is. If you like it keep it. But before you make the decision. Really look at your life before Facebook. Mine was so much better maybe yours was too

  16. Abbie Hoffman

Free enterprise. Facebook can ban whoever they want.

Also, the First Amendment doesn't apply. Facebook is not a government owned entity.

So…where's Trump's own platform that he's been screaming about?

  17. Like stink on a cat tùrd, the dumbed-down, Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V, indoctrinated, Trump-addicted, GOP-obsessed, liberal cud-chewer is hopelessly drawn in to the Trump article. Its only desire in life is to live on the Political Insider website and utilize it's meager copy and paste skills to fulfill it's bizarre addiction to Trump. Hilarious.

  18. He Zuckerbum and the rest of the fools running corrupt "social Media" President trump does not need your permission or censorship to say what needs to be said. he has his own Media service, and we are coming after your, your Fake News, and your money. When we get done with you, you will be more of a social Disease than Social Media.

  19. Trump Pens Nonsensical Rant in Response to Facebook Decision
Trump responded in predictable fashion to the decision by Facebook’s oversight board to prevent him from returning to the platform, for now. “What Facebook, Twitter, and Google have done is a total disgrace and an embarrassment to our Country. Free Speech has been taken away from the President of the United States because the Radical Left Lunatics are afraid of the truth, but the truth will come out anyway, bigger and stronger than ever before,” the emailed statement reads. Trump, who has never acknowledged losing the election, single-handedly tried to upend the country’s free and fair electoral process. But he somehow thought social networks were more damaging. “These corrupt social media companies must pay a political price, and must never again be allowed to destroy and decimate our Electoral Process,” he wrote.
