Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, spoke out on Sunday to issue a warning to Americans about Thanksgiving this week.
Fauci Issues Thanksgiving Warning
“I think the people in this country need to realistically do a risk-benefit assessment,” Fauci said while appearing on NBC’s “Meet The Press.”
He went on to say that families need to consider who will be at their Thanksgiving table, and what risk these people have for having contracted COVID-19.
“Every family is different. Everyone has a different level of risk that they want to tolerate,” Fauci said. “But when you think of the holiday season and the congregating indoors at what are innocent, lovely functions, like meals with family and friends, you have got to at least think in terms of evaluating, do you have people in your family that are elderly, that might have underlying conditions, like someone on chemotherapy, or other things that weaken their immune system?”

He also said that families need to think about travel logistics and how that could expose someone to the virus.
“Do you really want to get a crowd of 10, 15, 20 people, many of whom are coming in from places where they have gone from crowded airports, to planes, getting into the house?” Fauci asked.
He added that if people do end up hosting guests at their homes, they should “at least give you and your family the benefit of having considered what is the risk-benefit of doing that.”
“You just need to consider it and make your own decision,” Fauci concluded.
Cuomo’s Thanksgiving Warning
This comes after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke out to encourage Americans not to celebrate Thanksgiving.
“It’s your family. It’s your home. It’s your table. These are all environments where you feel safe, and that is the beauty of Thanksgiving,” Cuomo said.
“I’m at home with my family. I’m in my safe zone,” he added. “Your safe zone is not your safe zone. Your safe zone is dangerous this year. Please. Love is sometimes doing what’s hard. This year, if you love someone, it is smarter and better to stay away.”
