If there’s one thing Donald Trump and Dr. Ben Carson have been consistent with this election cycle, it’s changing the political correctness environment.
On Sunday, Carson joined Meet The Press and dropped a bombshell: he said he would “love” to see Roe v. Wade overturned, making abortion illegal in nearly all cases.
“I’m a reasonable person, and if people can come up with a reasonable explanation of why they would like to kill a baby, I’ll listen,” Carson said in an interview.
Unreasonable explanations, according to the Republican presidential candidate, include unwanted pregnancies in cases of rape and incest.
“Rape and incest, I would not be in favor of killing a baby because the baby came about in that way,” he said.
I am sure I will be ridiculed for this. I am all about restrictions on abortions and being selective, but I also think that could be a bad idea. Looking at history, when we as a country have made it illegal in the past, they had back alley clinics that would do the abortion, and it was killing hundreds of women. Even if it becomes illegal… they will still find a way.
Look at heroin. It’s illegal, and I see drug use almost daily where I live. What we need to promote is more education, adoption, and counseling.
If someone is raped or if a child is molested, why should they be forced to have the child? They are haunted for months and months about the event, correct and then it’s never over for them. They are compelled to have an unwanted child and to have potential serious medical, emotional, and psychiatric problems. And when they are forced to have the child, keeping the child or giving them up for adoption is difficult to do. It’s not an easy black and white decision.
I can’t even imagine being FORCED to do this if I were a woman. Before you judge someone, live a day in their shoes.
I am all for Pro-Life policies, but my views don’t over ride someone else’s pain, hardships, and rights. No, abortion shouldn’t be used for birth control. No, not just anyone should simply just get an abortion. But banning abortion is not the answer.
Dr. Carson has every right to feel this way and say it publicly, as it is a hot topic liberals will pounce on in the upcoming days. It’s touchy.
