Former President Donald Trump unexpectedly showed up to visit with New York City police and firefighters on the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
While some noticed that Trump had rejected joining Biden and other ex-presidents at a separate memorial event, Trump NYC visit was a total surprise to both city workers and the press.
The 45th President visited the 17th Precinct police station, and was noted to remark to the gathered firefighters and police, “I’ll say it loud. You know, you’re not supposed to say that. We love the blue.”
As Trump was leaving the precinct to applause from the crowd, one person yelled, “Thank you for keeping us safe.”
“I’ve been given so much support by the people who do what you do,” Trump told the crowd that had gathered.
On that terrible day, 343 firefighters lost their lives, along with 60 police officers.
The many officers lined up to meet Trump, who gladly shook hands with everyone and took many photos.
After he was finished visiting with the NYPD officers, Trump walked next door to greet the firefighters at Ladder Co. 2, where the former President continued to take photos and sign autographs, showing his appreciation for the workers.
President Joe Biden along with former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush attended a 9/11 memorial event September 11 National Memorial and Museum that is on the same grounds where the World Trade Center Twin Towers once stood.
One police officer reportedly asked Trump about running for President again in 2024 – to which he responded, “Actually, for me, it’s an easy question. I mean, I know what I’m going to do, but I’m not supposed to be talking about it yet from the standpoint of campaign finance laws, which, frankly, are ridiculous.”
After seemingly admitting that he would indeed run, he said, “I think you’re going to be happy.”
Trump was also asked if he’d run for Mayor of New York City.
“I would love that! I’d say, ‘Fellas good luck, go to town.”
Trump’s visit with firefighters and police was a marked contrast from President Biden, who, along with Barack Obama and George W. Bush, took part in an official ceremony at the Ground Zero site.
Biden did not address the nation.
