Former VP Dick Cheney appeared in an ad for his daughter’s floundering campaign in Wyoming, blasting former President Donald Trump as a “coward” and “the biggest threat to the Republic in our nation’s history.”
Liz Cheney trotted out her father for a new clip in which it’s revealed that obsessing over Trump is a family affair. In the ad, Cheney also attempts to justify her work on the January 6 committee.
“In our nation’s 246-year history there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our Republic than Donald Trump,” the former vice president states.
Hmm … leaders of the Confederate Army, John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Osama Bin Laden come to mind when thinking about the hyperbole in that statement.
In an odd addendum, the 81-year-old Cheney continues the theme of attacking Trump’s manhood as well.
“He tried to steal the last election with lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him,” the elder Cheney rails, referencing the likely GOP nominee for President in 2024. “He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters.”
Hey Dick, does Iraq ring a bell?
Many Trump supporters view the campaign ad featuring Dick Cheney as an insult to Donald Trump – and it is. But that’s not the real takeaway here.
In my view, this is a clear sign that Liz Cheney (R-WY) is throwing in the towel as she battles a double-digit polling deficit heading toward an August 16th primary for Wyoming’s at-large House seat.
The ad might be “paid for by Liz Cheney for Wyoming,” but there is nothing in the ad that could possibly appeal to a voter in Wyoming. She’s not even trying at this point.
What does baiting Trump over his manhood do for your sad, limp campaign, Liz?
Liz Cheney tried the same tactic when she used “Yellowstone” actor Kevin Costner in a recent promo, claiming, “Real men put country over party.”
(Costner endorsed Pete Buttigieg in the 2020 Presidential election, and voted for Joe Biden. Liz Cheney sure keeps interesting company.)
Yes, and real men and women fight for their morals and beliefs despite the possibility of someone getting hurt feelings. Real men and women remain principled conservatives despite the differences they might have with other principled conservatives.
Not Liz. Liz is so far adrift from being principled that she doesn’t fight for conservatism or her constituents any longer, she simply eats, sleeps, and breathes Donald Trump.
One has to wonder if she sits on the end of her bed sobbing and poking needles into a Trump voodoo doll each night. Sadly for her, carting Daddy out in front of the camera isn’t going to save her congressional career from crashing down on the 16th.
About the only thing Liz Cheney could possibly hope for with this ad is to stir up Democrats to come out and vote for her in the Republican primary, something The Political Insider has touched on in previous reporting.
And yes, Democrats have a new outlook on Dick Cheney, whom they once viewed as a war criminal and akin to a Nazi. You know, the same way they treated Cheney’s boss, President George W. Bush. The same way they now treat Trump.
But their hatred of Trump is so profound that House Democrats invited the Cheney’s to a January 6
soiree anniversary remembrance this past January and promptly lined up to shake the elder’s hand.
Dick Cheney taking issue with somebody complaining about election integrity is quite ironic. He must have completely forgotten about Al Gore and his attempts to fight election results in 2000.
Following the contest with Bush/Cheney, Gore refused to accept the free and fair election results and would not concede defeat. He instead tied up the election process through litigation in the courts for months.
Gore consistently lost his bid to overturn the election results in the lower courts and kept fighting in the Florida Supreme Court.
He would not concede until mid-December of that year, a month and a half after Election Day. Was he not a threat to the Republic, Dick?
Fast-forward over two decades and the man Democrats accused of having ‘stolen’ an election is being used in a campaign ad for his daughter, who is obsessed with a man who is arguing that his election was ‘stolen.’
We’re truly living in an alternate universe.
Dick Cheney, it should be noted, was universally reviled as an integral figure in the ‘weapons of mass destruction’ intelligence failure that led to a nearly 9-year war in Iraq that cost countless military and civilian lives.
He spied on Americans and brought back torture tactics.
Oh, and he accidentally shot an acquaintance while on a quail hunting trip in 2006.
Is it any wonder he left office with a 13% approval rating with the American people?
Trump has repeatedly slammed Liz Cheney and her father as “warmongers” who love “endless, nonsensical, bloody wars.”
“She’s the face of the Washington swamp and the same failed foreign policy of the Clintons, Bushes, the Obamas, the Bidens and the entire sick political establishment,” the former President recently said.
And bringing Daddy in as a lifesaver isn’t going to make a bit of difference.
Now is the time to support and share the sources you trust.
