Dems Threaten to Sue to Block Kavanaugh Confirmation

Democrats block Kavanaugh nomination

Democrats are trying to prevent the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh by burying Republicans under a sea of bureaucracy.

Senate Democrats shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of the filibuster, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t figured out another way to game the system. Senate Democrats instead ratcheted up calls for a mountain of documents about Kavanaugh’s work in George W. Bush’s White House, hoping to delay the confirmation process by forcing all the documents to be read and analyzed. If all relevant documents were provided, there would be millions of pages of material that would have to be combed through before confirming Kavanaugh.

Taking the side of sanity, the National Archives has refused to respond to the Democrats’ requests for all the relevant documents they possess. Archivist David Ferriero, who was appointed by Obama, said the National Archives can only respond to requests from a committee chair (all of whom happen to be Republicans). ” I am not in a position to change our understanding of the law or our practice in this particular instance,” he informed Diane Feinstein in a letter.

And because of that, rather than acknowledge the rules in place, Democrats are planning on suing for documents.

As the Daily Wire reported: “The very fact that a lawsuit may be necessary to see Judge Kavanaugh’s full record shows just how far Republicans are willing to go to keep it secret,” Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said in a letter after threatening to sue the National Archives. “While I have not given up hope that the FOIA request will be honored, we stand ready to use every means necessary so Americans can have access to the information they deserve.” The letter was also signed by Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse and Richard Blumenthal.

Schumer also said that Democrats need to review as many as four million pages of documents about Kavanaugh before they can decide whether to approve Kavanaugh or not. Given that every Democrat is dead-set against confirming Kavanaugh already, are we really to believe that them pretending to have read four million pages will change anything? It’s not like they’re going to stumble upon anything that makes them suddenly start supporting Kavanaugh.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has already received 250,000 pages of documents that pertain to Kavanaugh’s time in the Bush administration, which Republicans voluntarily handed over. Are we really to believe they’re going to read a single page of those 250,000, let alone four million? Of course not. The goal is to obstruct and delay Kavanaugh’s confirmation for as long as possible.

Remember: the most damning criticism levied against Kavanaugh by Democrats thus far is that he’s spent too much money on baseball tickets in the past, and once had credit card debt that was then paid off. What could they possibly expect to find in those four million pages of documents? Damning evidence that Kavanaugh once had student loan debt before responsibly paying it off?

Democrats are grasping at straws to thwart Kavanaugh, and everyone can see it.
