Democrats Begin Senate Trial Hijinks Against Trump

As just one example, Rep. Val Demmings (D-Fla.) insists Mitch McConnell should recuse himself from proceedings against the president

A concept much used in totalitarian politics is “the big lie.”

Repeat something loud and often enough — and many people will believe it, regardless of a lack of evidence.

A corollary to that is to try any political maneuver, no matter how absurd or hypocritical — and, especially if you control the press, rely on gullible people and your media pals to support you in the effort.

Welcome to the media strategy of today’s Democrats, in this analyst’s view, when it comes to the probable upcoming Senate trial of President Donald Trump.

Proof of this is the statement of Rep. Val Demmings (D-Fla.) on Friday that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) should recuse himself from any trial in the Senate because he said in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News that he will be working with the president’s legal team to coordinate the defense.

“There will be no difference between the president’s position and our position as to how to handle this to the extent that we can,” said McConnell to Hannity.

He also said the Senate would “be working through this process, hopefully in a fairly short period of time.”

Here is Demmings’ tweet on the matter.

Coming from a member of a committee that just railroaded an impeachment inquiry and hearing through the U.S. House, this is rank hypocrisy on Demmings’ part.

Rep. Demmings makes this request while she sat idly by when parliamentary procedure, due process, and fact evidence was thrown out the door in the Dem effort to be prosecutor, judge, and jury in an impeachment masquerade against a sitting president. A “big lie,” indeed.

And now she wants to control the Senate trial.

Well, guess what?

Just as her party controls the House — the GOP controls the Senate. If she thought her own party played hardball in the House, she likely has no idea what is in store for the Democrats at the hands of the magnificent lawmaker from Kentucky otherwise known as the canny Mitch McConnell.

The GOP met Demmings’ move with pushback.

Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Fox News that, in relation to impeachment in general, “Everybody in the country now has seen the record. They’ve seen the facts and they’ve seen what supposedly is backing up these articles of impeachment — and there’s nothing there.”

On Demmings’ proposal: “I think it’s absurd.”

Demmings’ trial balloon is an indication of Democrat nervousness regarding the Senate trial.

Lawmakers on the Left know already that the chances for conviction are small.

The Dems must be wondering how they will salvage any political advantage out of the situation.

So, no doubt we’ll see other maneuvers to try to make impeachment work for them.

If Demmings’ gambit is the kind of thing they come up with in the immediate future, there is no way out for them.

The Dems will then pay a big election-year price for putting the American people through this foolishness.
