Dem: We Have to Pass Socialized Medicine To Find Out How to Pay for It

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi famously said of concerns regarding ObamaCare in 2010 that “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” It’s the kind of logic you’d expect from a used car salesman, and after the public did learn of what was in ObamaCare, it’s no wonder why the truth was concealed from us.

ObamaCare was just a compromise for Democrats, however. The goal all along has been for single-payer health care, where private insurance is largely abolished and the government is in charge of all healthcare related purchases. While ObamaCare subsidized the current healthcare system, it wasn’t the kind of government overhaul liberals truly want to see.

Yet, the challenge there is how to pay for such a plan. It’s no secret that American healthcare is among the most expensive in the world – are we supposed to believe that it’ll decrease with an incompetent government in charge of purchases?

According to Fox News, a former “Sex and the City” actress thinks she has it figured out. Nixon’s proposed “New York Health Act (NYHA), which would establish universal health care for everyone in the state, including undocumented immigrants, would require the state’s tax revenue to increase by about 156 percent by 2022, according to a study by the RAND Corp. But it also found state spending on total health care under NYHA would be slightly lower – about 3 percent – by 2031 than under the current system.”

So, how to pay for that all in a city that already faces extortionary levels of taxation? Nixon recently told the New York Daily News editorial board her plan: “Pass it and then figure out how to fund it.”

Genius.

Cynthia is hardly the only so-called “Democratic Socialist” to rise to fame promoting unaffordable policies in New York City. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also been asked how she’d pay for “free” healthcare (among other programs), and her answers have ranged from proposing $2 trillion in tax hikes and defense cuts to pay for programs that would require new spending 10 times higher.

In my favorite public appearance of hers, Cortez noted that we need to “think of all the money we’d save” from a lack of funerals if we have free healthcare. Not only does she think she can abolish capitalism – she can apparently abolish death too!

The Medicare-for-all/single-payer healthcare bill proposed earlier this year by Sen. Bernie Sanders was estimated to cost $32.6 trillion over 10 years by a Mercatus Center at George Mason University study. I’m unsure even a rocket scientist could figure out how to fund that.
