Report: Caravan Migrants Carrying Communicable Diseases

A pair of reports show that President Trump and his backers were right to question whether the caravan trying to breach the U.S. border could contain violent criminals as well as infectious diseases.

The media has consistently portrayed the President as a bloviator, launching hyperbolic warnings about the threat represented by this mob of migrants.

Fox News Shepard Smith, for example, downplayed the threat, saying “There is no invasion. No one’s coming to get you. There’s nothing at all to worry about.”

It turns out the ‘invasion’ involves communicable diseases and gang members.

Border agents arrest MS-13 gang member

“You’re going to find MS-13, you’re going to find Middle Eastern, you’re going to find everything,” the President predicted in late October, as the caravan was still hundreds of miles outside the border.

The mainstream media couched those comments with their now famous two-word tagline, saying Trump made the comments “without evidence.”

They can remove that descriptive tag now.

A member of the violent MS-13 street gang has been arrested after trying to gain entry into the United States through the cover of the migrant caravan.

Jose Villalobos-Jobel was held on suspicion that he was in the United States without legal documentation, then confessed to his gang affiliation.

Worse, he admitted to using the migrant caravan as cover to enter the country, something President Trump specifically warned about.

The Washington Examiner reports:

An active member of the MS-13 gang admitted to U.S. Border Patrol officials that he joined a caravan of migrants in the hopes of reaching the border and crossing into the United States, a U.S. official told the Washington Examiner.

DHS warned that there may be upwards of 600 known criminals interspersed with the other caravan members.

Thousands ill, some treated for TB and AIDS

Conservative pundits have warned of the potential of migrants carrying infectious diseases as they cross into the United States.

Fox News was widely ridiculed for suggesting the migrants could be bringing diseases with them.

The Tijuana Health Department reports indicate thousands of migrants have already been treated for a wide range of communicable disease, from tuberculosis to HIV or AIDS.

“They have treated 2267 migrants, 60% with respiratory infections, 3 confirmed cases of tuberculosis, four cases of HIV-AIDS, 101 cases of lice, four cases of chickenpox and hepatitis is a real concern because of the unsanitary conditions,” Fox News’ Griff Jenkins reported.

Why would anyone – Democrat or Republican – mock people like President Trump and his supporters for having valid concerns such as these?

Why would anyone, knowing these threats are out there, not want the border secured? The media would be well-served to recognize no matter how outlandish they feel Trump’s rhetoric might be, he’s almost always proven right about the threat at our borders.
