Democrat Senator Joe Donnelly has confirmed that he’ll be voting “no” on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Donnelly’s vote comes as a surprise, given that he’s running for re-election in a pro-Trump state, and voted in favor of confirming Neil Gorsuch (which only two other Democrats did). He blamed the sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh, stating that “we have been unable to get all the information necessary regarding this nomination.”

In absence of the witch hunt from his fellow Democrats, it’s highly likely he would’ve voted in Kavanaugh’s favor. Shortly after his announcement, his GOP mid-term opponent, Mike Braun, denounced his decision as a “grave mistake,” and called the process an “embarrassment to our democracy.”

Meanwhile, a Republican who doesn’t have to worry about reelection, Jeff Flake, just flaked on his colleagues. While Flake announced that he’d vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, he does want a one week delay for a brief FBI investigation. “I think that we ought to do what we can to make sure that we do all due diligence with a nomination this important,” Flake said.
I’ve explained elsewhere why an FBI investigation would be pointless – mostly because it wouldn’t uncover anything we don’t already know. When the FBI investigated the allegations against Clarence Thomas, the scope of their investigation consisted of interviewing witnesses and gathering statements. That’s already been done with every witness to Kavanaugh’s alleged crimes – and all have denied any wrongdoing on Kavanaugh’s part. What would the FBI do? Re-interview everyone to see if they’ve suddenly changed their minds?
Perhaps Flake thinks the FBI’s investigation will be the equivalent of a show trial (hence why he publicly says he’ll vote for Kavanaugh, and doesn’t indicate that the outcome of the FBI’s investigation will sway his vote), but he is granting Democrats a pointless concession, allowing them to push back a vote needlessly and pointlessly.
When the FBI cleared Clarence Thomas of any wrongdoing, Joe Biden famously remarked that “The next person who refers to an FBI report as being worth anything obviously doesn’t understand anything. FBI explicitly does not, in this or any other case, reach a conclusion, period. Period,” Biden said. “When people wave an FBI report before you, understand they do not, they do not reach conclusions,” he continued.
At least one Democrat is willing to admit that an FBI investigation of Kavanaugh wouldn’t change anything for them.
Yes, of course there should be an FBI investigation. But whatever they find doesn’t change the fact that Kavanaugh, especially after his performance yesterday, is the most dangerous Supreme Court pick of our lifetime.

The FBI investigated Clarence Thomas, exonerated him, and every Democrat still believes he is guilty of sexual assault today. They don’t want the truth, they want the seat. All the brinkmanship the Democrats have been doing is pure sabotage, plain and simple.
