Biden’s Coronavirus Adviser Wants Nationwide Lockdowns For ‘4 To 6 Weeks’

Joe Biden adviser on coronavirus, Dr. Michael Osterholm, has said that there needs to be a nationwide lockdown for “four to six weeks.”
 
On Monday, Osterholm was appointed to Biden’s coronavirus advisory board.

4 To 6 Week Lockdown? 

Osterholm told CNBC on Wednesday that a national lockdown was in order.

“We could pay for a package right now to cover all of the wages, lost wages for individual workers, for losses to small companies, to medium-sized companies or city, state, county governments. We could do all of that,” he said.

Osterholm added, “If we did that, then we could lock down for four-to-six weeks.”

He then said that such an action might help tamp down the virus “like they did in New Zealand and Australia.”

Biden Says He Is Open To Another Massive Lockdown

Osterholm said in August that the lockdowns that states led were not enough.

“The problem with the March-to-May lockdown was that it was not uniformly stringent across the country,” he wrote in the New York Times in a co-authored op-ed with Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Neel Kashkari. “For example, Minnesota deemed 78 percent of its workers essential.”

“To be effective, the lockdown has to be as comprehensive and strict as possible,” he added.

Joe Biden said during the campaign that if “scientists” told him to implement a national lockdown, he would be open to it. 

World News Tonight’s David Muir predicted in January that COVID-19 and the flu would “combine.” 

“I would shut it down. I would listen to the scientists.”

Biden: ‘I Would Shut It Down. I Would Listen To The Scientists’

Muir asked, “Would you be prepared to shut this country down again?” 

Biden signaled that he would.

“So if the scientists say, ‘Shut it down…’ ” Muir pressed.

“I would shut it down. I would listen to the scientists,” Biden replied.

The scientists Biden is referring to have only coronavirus to consider – not emotional health, mental health and the economic ramifications of closing down businesses.

The answer to how to approach to coronavirus is more complicated that lockdowns vs. no lockdowns. Longterm damage can be done by battening the hatches again.

But don’t expect to hear about any of these concerns from Joe Biden
