Biden Sees Lowest Poll Numbers Yet Taken By Polling Group – 66% Of Independents Disapprove

Biden Making History For Lowest Poll Numbers For President Ever Taken By Polling Group

President Joe Biden is making history after a fashion, but probably not in a way that he or the Democrats would like. A new poll taken by NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist show Biden’s approval rating at a historic low for his young presidency.

Biden’s handling of rising cases of COVID-19, inflation, and a legislative agenda that is all but dead are fueling some pretty bad numbers that has to have Democrats a bit sweaty.

Biden’s Numbers Sinking Fast

The new poll numbers are not promising for Joe Biden or Democrats in general.

Biden’s overall approval rating sits at 41%. That number is a historic low for the president for this particular polling group. Those who disapprove of Biden’s handling of the job is at 55%, putting him underwater by 14 points.

If the numbers are broken down by party, it is an even more ominous scenario for Democrats. Just 29% of Independents, a key voting bloc, strongly approve or approve of Biden’s job performance.

Key Demographics And Issues Get Low Numbers

The results from a survey in November show that Biden’s approval rating among black voters dropped from 66% to 48%. Biden has a serious problem with Hispanics. The same poll shows approval among Hispanics at just 33% approval and 65% disapproving.

When asked about specific issues, the numbers do not get any better. Fox News reports that 69% disapprove of Biden’s handling of inflation, 61% disapprove on his handling of crime, 63% disapprove of the handling of immigration, and 55% disapprove of Biden’s handling of U.S. relations with Russia.

Bad Numbers Are Nothing New

A poll from the beginning of December from Robert Cahaly’s Trafalgar polling group shows a downward trend in Joe Biden’s job approval as crisis after crisis has mounted.

At the time, Independents approved by just 29%, Democrat approval was at 65%, and Republican approval was at 8.2%. Americans are also seeing rising prices in essentials like gas and food, and high levels of inflation not seen in 30 years.

Joe Biden’s signature piece of legislation, the Build Back Better bill, a $2 trillion spending spree full of social spending and climate change initiatives appears to be dead for now after Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has said that he will not support the bill.

A recent Politico report pointed out that presidential job approval numbers are usually closely tied to a party’s midterm election performance. If that is the case, Democrats should be extremely sweaty.
