Failed Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke launched yet another attack on the Republican Party on Wednesday, this time describing it as the “cult of death” during an appearance on MSNBC.
O’Rourke Discusses Mask Mandate
O’Rourke went on “Deadline” to discuss Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) lifting the mask mandate in his state amidst COVID-19.
“It sounds like it isn’t going to work on the science side,” Wallace said. “There’s a lot of skepticism in Texas that it’s not going to work on the economic side as well. Why is he doing it?”
“They literally want to sacrifice the lives of our fellow Texans, for I don’t know, for political gain?” O’Rourke questioned, becoming increasingly unglued. “To satisfy certain powerful interests within the state?”
O’Rourke Zeroes In On Republicans
After claiming that this move will kill countless Texans, O’Rourke shifted to attacking the Republican Party.
“You know. I think too many of us it appeared to be a cult of personality, the Republican Party in the era of Trump, and it probably still holds true. It’s hard to escape the conclusion that it’s also a cult of death,” he said.
“You have extraordinarily anti-democratic elements. I mean, look at the insurrection of January 6 for any proof,” O’ Rourke added. “You have anti-government elements literally running the government of the state of Texas.”
O’Rourke Doubles Down
This came after O’Rourke took to Twitter to blast Abbott for the move.
“A death warrant for Texans,” he wrote. “Add them to the 44,000+ killed as he failed to confront the pandemic & botched the vaccine rollout.”
“And those who froze to death because he cares more about energy companies’ profits than keeping Texans alive,” O’Rourke continued. “Abbott is killing the people of Texas.”

Despite Abbott’s order, O’Rourke is still urging the people of Texas to wear masks. There has been talk that O’Rourke hopes to challenge Abbott for the governorship in the next election, so it comes as no surprise that the Democrat is politicizing this so greatly.
Abbott had announced on Tuesday at a restaurant in Lubbock that the mask order would be lifted on March 10, according to Newsweek.
“Removing statewide mandates does not end personal responsibility,” Abbott said. “It’s just that now state mandates are no longer needed.”
