There has been speculation that conservative hero Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), a former prosecutor, could replace James Comey as President Donald Trump’s new FBI Director. Trump administration insiders and media reporters have been floating his name as a possible appointment.
Sadly, it won’t be the case. Gowdy fans are not happy to learn he’s taken himself out of the running, and doesn’t consider himself to be “the right person” for the job.
Gowdy made a humble statement, downplaying his extraordinary legal mind and talents:
Gowdy, who was widely speculated to a top contender to replace Jim Comey, said that he met with Sessions on Saturday and spoke with him a second time Monday to discuss the open position.
“I shared with him two things: (1) the qualities I believe are indispensable for our next FBI Director to possess, and (2) my firm conviction that I would not be the right person,” Gowdy said in a statement of the meeting, which was also reportedly attended by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
Comey was fired by President Trump last Tuesday.

Gowdy was such a fighter against Hillary Clinton’s criminal activity as Secretary of State that his appointment by Trump would have surely been a hotly contested political battle. Still, he is immensely qualified for running America’s top law enforcement agency.
