Missouri Lawmaker Maria Chappelle-Nadal May Be Removed from Office After Trump Assassination Comment

It’s been a rough week for Maria Chappelle-Nadal, a Missouri state senator who hasn’t learned the first rule of social media: Don’t post anything you wouldn’t want your employer to see.

In this case, her employer is the government (and thus the citizens of her state, by proxy) – and they’re not too happy that she expressed a desire for President Trump’s assassination on Facebook.

She’s since deleted the comment, but as you’re well aware, the internet never forgets. The Secret Service is investigating her, her office is refusing to answer phone calls, and her Twitter account is mindlessly retweeting people who are “standing with Maria.” Her supporters are a visible minority among the waves of criticism she’s receiving.

She’s made it clear that she has no intention of resigning despite the overwhelming criticism – but as it turns out, she may not have much of a choice.

Missouri Lt. Gov. Mike Parson informed a state Democratic lawmaker who threatened President Trump’s life to resign by September 13 or the state Senate will move to expel her.

Parson, a former sheriff who also serves as the president of Missouri’s State Senate, pointed to a section of the Missouri Constitution that relates to penalties for lawmakers guilty of “contempt and disorderly conduct.”

According to The Springfield News Leader, Parson stipulated that Chappelle-Nadal must resign by  September, the date of the upcoming veto session, or deal with expulsion from the Senate.

Missouri Democratic and Republican lawmakers called for her to resign from her seat, including most recently Democratic Missouri Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver.

H/T The Daily Caller

Democrats have already lost a TON of state and federal posts, including congressional and state legislative seats, governor seats, and the presidency under the tenure of Barack Obama. Since Trump took office, we’ve seen Democrats lose every single special congressional election, and even another governor seat as West Virginia’s Jim Justice switched parties to become a Republican.

And with the inevitable firing of Nadal – we can tack up yet another victory.
