YouTube Shooting Witness: I Wish I Had a Gun to Defend Myself

A witness to the tragic shooting at YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno, California was asked what was going through his mind as he watched the events unfold, and his response was something that simply had to befuddle anti-gun zealots.

On Tuesday, suspect Nasim Aghdam, a 39-year-old resident of San Diego, opened fire at the YouTube campus, wounding three people before turning the gun on herself.

Thus far, Aghdam’s motivation appears to be that the video-sharing website had been suppressing views of her vegan and musical parody videos.

“She was angry” and “hated” the company, her father reported to police.

Aside from being armed with a handgun, Aghdam was also likely armed with the knowledge that the YouTube headquarters was a gun-free zone, and she wasn’t going to encounter much in the way of resistance from her victims.

One witness to the shooting interviewed by KTVU admitted he wished he had a way to fight back against the shooter.

“What was going through your mind?” one reporter asked the man about the shooting. “I mean, people dropping, being shot multiple times, bullets whizzing, people bleeding. What’s going through your mind?”

“I knew I had to be smart,” the witness said. “You’ve got to be fast. You’ve got to think fast.”

He then added what everybody would want in that situation – a good guy with a gun.

“I didn’t have a gun on me, but I wish I did,” he said.

Patrick Neville, a Republican lawmaker and survivor of the Columbine shooting in 1999, recently said: “Time and time again we point to the one common theme with mass shootings, they occur in gun-free zones.”

We’ve said it once before but it bears repeating – gun-free zones are only beneficial to criminals who will defy that zone and start shooting innocent, unarmed people at will.

We wish this witness had a gun too. It might have stopped the shooting sooner and prevented others from being wounded by a lunatic.
