While parts of the White House is open to the public for tours, much of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is a mystery to most Americans, as few get to see the building in person.
Keeping with the somewhat mysterious nature of the Executive residence, a strange red light was spotted flashing from several second floor White House windows Sunday night, taking the internet by storm.
The video, which was captured by an Orlando, Florida TV station, shows a strange series of red flashes appearing in the windows that are off-limits to the general public.
A reporter for the station posted the mysterious video on his Twitter page:

The incident has become a viral sensation, and The Hill compiled some of the best theories as to what the unusual red light was:

While the internet was having tons of fun speculating the origin of the red light, one reporter revealed what really happened:

It’s amazing how a simple red flashing light appearing on the second floor of the White House can cause the entire internet to explode. While the light did not come from the White House, the Trump administration does have a history of lighting up the White House in different colors.
Earlier this month, the First Family announced that the White House will be lit blue to honor fallen police officers who have died in the line of duty.
