The Washington Post likes to claim their media coverage is so valuable that without it, “Democracy Dies in Darkness.”
MSNBC’s Katy Tur once famously declared that “journalists run towards a story” like a “firefighter runs into a fire.”
And yet, when Democrats tried their best to revive an old, already debunked fake news story over the weekend, journalists did not run to expose the lie.
In fact, they helped promote it.
A tweet spread by an unverified account on Friday rehashed a story in which President Trump supposedly called migrants ‘animals.’
He did not. The video is taken out of context, and features comments Trump made very specifically about MS-13 gang members. He, rightfully so, referred to them as “animals.”
“These aren’t people. These are animals,” Trump said of the violent gang. “And we’re taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that’s never happened before.”
The myth that the President was referring to asylum seekers and legal immigrants as such was debunked nearly a year ago.
So, when the false clip was spread once again, honorable media members should have been quick to squash it. But they weren’t. They let it sit on social media for days, letting it marinate for a while so that low-information voters would believe it.
It took the original user three days to correct his original tweet.
I have learned that Trump’s comments were in response to a specific question about MS-13 members and not about asylum seekers more broadly. I have chosen to delete the tweet, but am copying it here. My apologies for not being more accurate. pic.twitter.com/oDTdNvzSdq

How Did Democrats and the Media React?
Journalists and media outlets ignored the story as it spread across social media like wildfire. And Democrat lawmakers knew the media would do nothing to stop the lie.
As such, they pounced, spreading the lie even further.
“Racist language like this has led to violence throughout the world’s history,” 2020 candidate Kirsten Gillibrand wrote. “No human being is an animal. We have to be better than this.”
There were others …
You do not refer to human beings as animals. You just don’t.
— Pete Buttigieg (@PeteButtigieg) April 6, 2019
Including DNC chair Tom Perez …
This type of dehumanizing language is dangerous, and against everything we stand for as a country. https://t.co/YSj9WRMrTM

You realize that in attacking Trump, these prominent Democrats are actually defending the violent, reprehensible animals that make up the MS-13 gang, correct?
Where Was the Media?
Surely a media quick to point out every word of embellishment by the President would be eager to debunk this lie, yes? Of course not.
Greg Sargent of the aforementioned ‘Democracy Dies in Darkness’ outlet, argues that we can’t really be sure Trump was discussing MS-13.
“Reporters rushed forth to proclaim that Trump was only talking about MS-13 members, which isn’t even clear to begin with, and doesn’t seriously reckon with how determined Trump is to dehumanize asylum-seekers, and the rhetorical tricks he employs to do so,” he wrote.
Except, it is clear – quite clear – to anyone with an IQ that registers in triple digits.
Here’s the FULL CLIP in context of Trump calling MS-13 gang members… and not immigrants… animals.
And people wonder why they are called #FakeNews when they chop videos to push a narrative. pic.twitter.com/AC4wnS5oYJ

Other fake journos followed Sargent’s example …
This is journalist, @TifaniRoberts comforting a small boy on the border. He was shot in the throat by Ortega’s thugs in Nicaragua. This little boy is seeking asylum in the United States. His name is William. Trump calls him “animal”. pic.twitter.com/avGe5mWctH

Potus refers to poor migrants as animals…and this man feeds them like family https://t.co/M9qgTYI9LW
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) April 7, 2019
These are our media firefighters? They not only didn’t correct the lie by presenting facts, but they willfully helped spread it around. Did they really think we’d forget the entire story was corrected almost a year ago?
The Mainstream Media has never been more inaccurate or corrupt than it is today. It only seems to get worse. So much Fake News!

We’re sure you’re not surprised at all. File this as yet another example of the media corruption that has been operating in this country for decades. What makes them particularly dangerous now, however, is the clear alliance they’ve forged with the Democrat party.
You don’t spread a lie like this without knowing that the other party is willing to go along with it.
