What’s So Funny? Fox Grills Psaki After Biden Jokes About Americans Trapped In Afghanistan

Fox News reporter Peter Doocy grilled White House press secretary Jen Psaki after President Biden purportedly made a joke in response to a question about Americans trapped in Afghanistan.
NBC News’ Peter Alexander asked Biden following a meeting on cybersecurity in the State Dining Room, “If Americans are still in Afghanistan after the deadline, what will you do?”
Video shows the President look down for a bit before turning back to Alexander and smirking.
At this point, the audio feed for the event is cut or goes out, but viewers can see Biden respond in some manner.
Alexander tweeted what had been said.
“You’ll be the first person I call,” Biden quipped, according to the reporter, before taking no further questions.

Biden Jokes After Question About Americans Trapped in Afghanistan
Secretary of State Antony Blinken late Wednesday afternoon reported that as many as 1,500 Americans are still waiting to be evacuated from Afghanistan.
As The Political Insider reported, those Americans include over 30 students and parents from a California school district who have been stranded in the Taliban-controlled country following a summer trip abroad.
Reuters revealed that one of the families was able to make it out since, but “the fate of the five other families was not immediately known.”
Alexander’s question was relevant and undeserving of a joke – What was President Biden prepared to do to help these Americans?

Doocy, in turn, asked what was on the minds of many after seeing Biden’s response. Why is this a laughing matter?
“At the tail end of the President’s remarks today about cybersecurity, he was asked about Afghanistan … and he made a joke,” Doocy said. “So, what’s so funny?”
Psaki struggled to respond.
“I think what he conveyed is that he has not — well, what I can convey from here, I should say is that, as he stated yesterday and as the secretary of state just stated, we’re on track to complete our mission by August 31st,” she said, agreeing that it’s a very serious issue.

No Laughing Matter
On Wednesday evening, a security alert issued by the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan warned Americans “to avoid traveling to the airport and to avoid airport gates at this time” unless they hear otherwise.
Reports are surfacing this morning that an Italian warplane carrying 100 refugees was shot at as it took off.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby insists that troops will stay “until the end of the mission,” denying reports that they would be out before the August 31 deadline.
“Evacuation operations in Kabul will not be wrapping up in 36 hours,” tweeted Kirby. “We will continue to evacuate as many people as we can until the end of the mission.”

Hardly the time for smirks and quips to reporters.
Biden’s joke was reminiscent of his Vice President, Kamala Harris, who did her trademark awkward nervous laugh when she was bombarded by questions about the deadly chaos in Afghanistan.

Biden himself has had his share of disgraceful moments, turning his back on the media several times when they’ve inquired about the destruction of Afghanistan.
