Walgreens To Close Stores In Democrat-Run San Francisco After Rise In ‘Organized Retail Crime’

Walgreens announced Tuesday that they are closing five stores in San Francisco due to an uptick in "organized theft" in the Democrat-dominated city.

Walgreens announced they are closing five stores in San Francisco due to an uptick in “organized retail crime” in the Democrat-dominated city.

Walgreens spokesperson Phil Caruso made the announcement Tuesday.

“Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that,” Caruso said.

He added, “Retail theft across our San Francisco stores has continued to increase in the past few months to five times our chain average.”

The spike in organized theft and subsequent closings come despite the fact that Walgreens, according to Caruso, “increased our investments in security measures in stores across the city to 46 times our chain average.”

It takes substantially more than 46 times the average to combat left-wing soft-on-crime policies.

Walgreens Shutters Multiple Stores In San Francisco

Walgreens has reportedly shut down a grand total of ten stores in the city since 2019, including one that was losing roughly $1,000/day due to theft.

Ahsha Safai, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, said the latest spate of closures is ‘devastating’ and will leave a lasting negative effect on the community.

“This Walgreens is less than a mile from seven schools and has been a staple for seniors, families and children for decades,” he tweeted. “This closure will significantly impact this community.”

A video surfaced over the summer showing retail theft at a San Francisco Walgreens in action.

“In June, a masked man was caught on video at a Walgreens, stuffing items into a trash bag before cruising out of the store on a bicycle,” the Associated Press reported.

Left-Wing Utopia

There are numerous factors contributing to the rise of organized theft in the left-wing utopia of San Francisco, California.

Proposition 47, passed in the Golden State in 2014, reduced a whole range of felonies to misdemeanors, including theft if a stolen item does not exceed $950.

San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin, meanwhile, has been described by the Heritage Foundation as a “rogue prosecutor.”

As such, his modus operandi includes “refusing to prosecute huge categories of crimes” and “abusing the power and authority of their offices by not enforcing the law.”

“There are serious consequences for crimes in San Francisco, and I believe that people who commit crimes must be held to answer,” Boudin defended.

“But it must be done in ways that reduce rather than create future crime.”

In 2019, Walgreens banned the open carry of guns in their stores.

Other outlets are feeling the effects of a rise in organized theft in San Francisco as well.

Target announced over the summer that they were cutting store hours in the city to address the rise in shoplifting.

“With the safety of our guests, team members, and communities as our top priority, we’ve temporarily reduced our operating hours in six San Francisco stores,” a spokesperson in July.

“For more than a month, we’ve been experiencing a significant and alarming rise in theft and security incidents at our San Francisco stores, similar to reports from other retailers in the area,” Target said in a statement.
