Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s loss to Republican Glenn Youngkin in Virginia’s governor’s race on Tuesday was celebrated by former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, who saw something more than just a normal election.
The surfing, Aloha-ing Gabbard called McAuliffe being defeated “a victory for all Americans” over those who “want us separated by race.”
Gabbard tweeted, “McAuliffe’s loss is a victory for all Americans. Why? Because it was a resounding rejection of efforts to divide us by race, the stripping of parental rights, and arrogant, deaf leaders.’
She added, “This benefits us all.”
Youngkin’s win took place in a state where most expected Democrat McAuliffe to easily skate through – Biden had won the state by 10 points just 12 months earlier.
Education became a heavy focus as the campaign wound down, with McAuliffe making an unpopular statement in a debate that the Youngkin campaign capitalized on.
“I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach,” McAuliffe said during a debate with Youngkin.
Youngkin said more parents ultimately sided with him.
Fox News reported, “Youngkin said after his win on Tuesday that his campaign became a ‘movement led by parents.”
“[W]hen [parents] heard Terry McAuliffe say…that parents don’t have a role in their kids’ education…this ceased to be a campaign, and it started to be a movement led by parents,” Youngkin said Wednesday on ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
“And while the kitchen table issues that are so important to all Virginians – low taxes and safe communities and great jobs – continued to be very much front and center, education really did become the top issue in this election,” Youngkin told Carlson.
Many have speculated that Tulsi is positioning herself for a party switch based on several of her recent statements.
In just the last month, the former congressman warned about the Biden DOJ targeting worried parents who have gone to protest school boards over COVID mandates and Critical Race Theory:
“Every American should be concerned about what’s happening right now. This is something that is bigger than Democrats vs. Republicans.
What we are seeing here is about the powerful elite in this country using their power to try to silence and control us.”
Later that month, she went on Fox News and warned that if you defy the establishment elite, they will “target you, censor you, demonize you, and call you a domestic terrorist and stick the attorney general on you.”
The comments that are much more in line with a Trump analysis of the power dynamics in this country than the typical Democrat way of thinking – leading some to speculate that she could be on the verge of, if not joining the Republicans, officially abandoning the Democrats.
