Defense Secretary Jim Mattis Warns Trump Over Veto

This morning, President Trump threatened to veto a massive spending bill passed by Congress that is expected to soon be on his desk for signature.

President Trump objected to the $1.3 trillion omnibus bill not containing funding for a border wall along with the U.S.-Mexico border or a solution to DACA individuals who were protected by the Obama-era program.

This is a huge gamble for Trump. The government is only funded until midnight tonight. It’s highly unlikely that Congress will pass another spending bill, ceding to Trump’s demands.

This means Trump faces a choice: Either veto the spending bill and shut the government down, or miss his opportunity to extract demands from a must-pass law.

And now the pressure has increased on Trump ten-fold, as it’s being reported that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is warning him not to issue a veto:

Check out this breaking report from Fox News:

Mattis’s main concern is the increased military funding contained in the omnibus, which our troops and generals desperately need.

On top of all that, Mick Mulvaney, who is the head of the Office of Management and Budget, actually confirmed that Trump intends to sign the bill into law.

There’s no telling what Trump will do, however. He needs to prove he’s an effective president who can lead, not just give in to Congress.
