While on Christmas break, President Trump made time to visit a local firehouse in West Palm Beach to personally thank first responders for the work they do.

“You do a fantastic job, and I just wanted to thank you very much,” Trump told the firemen and women and paramedics. “Really fantastic people.”

“So thank you all very much, we appreciate it, now I’ll go back to Palm Beach and you go back and watch yourselves on television,” he added. “Create some stars in here, chief.”

Trump didn’t simply tour the firehouse and take pictures – he actually listened to the concerns of the firefighters.

The President asked if there was anything they’d like to discuss, to which the station chief inquired about the SAFER Program Reauthorization Act, a program that authorizes grants for specialized training and other endeavors for emergency responders.

The bill was introduced by Sen. John McCain earlier this year. Trump said he supports it and any measure needed to help law enforcement and first responders.

The President also took the time to remind first responders that under the previous administration, they were handcuffed by poor decision making, particularly involving the use of military-grade equipment by local police forces.

“You guys were depleted, too,” he explained. “We’re giving you, and particularly the police, we’re giving them military equipment, which was taken away by the previous administration.”

“They didn’t want you to use the military equipment … But now you have the best military equipment and you’re able to use it for the police force.”

“We just appreciate [you],” he concluded.
