President Trump on Monday repeatedly mocked CNN host Chris Cuomo as ‘Fredo’ to a group of reporters at the United Nations.
‘Fredo’ is a reference to Fredo Corleone, the fictional weaker brother in ‘The Godfather’ movie, a man who doesn’t get much respect from his father or anyone else in the family.
Cuomo is the younger, less successful brother of New York governor Andrew Cuomo.
The President was referring to his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and his performance in a recent combative interview with the CNN anchor.
“I think he [Giuliani] was excellent. I watched him the other night and I haven’t watched that show in a long time. I don’t watch CNN because it’s fake news,” Trump began.
Then he launched into a barrage of Fredo’s …

“But I watched Rudy take apart Fredo. Fredo’s performance was incompetent, Rudy took him apart,” Trump went on.
“Rudy Giuliani took Fredo to the cleaners,” he later added. “First time I’ve watched CNN in a long time because I hate to watch it because it’s so fake.”
Cuomo actually helped elevate the ‘Fredo’ moniker when he was seen in a viral video being confronted by some random jackwagon with the name, then going off on an expletive-laced tirade.

Cuomo: “You’re going to have a problem”
Man: “What are you going to do about it?”

Of course, it’s not a racial slur, but Cuomo likes to compare criticism of himself and his professional field to using the N-word. He has previously likened the term ‘fake news’ to the N-word as well.
And yet, Cuomo failed to take exception when a guest on his show compared Donald Trump Jr. to ‘Fredo.’
Does CNN’s head of PR still think “Fredo” is an ethnic slur after watching this? Because if it’s the N word for Italians like @ChrisCuomo says, I don’t understand why Chris seems so at ease with someone saying it here. An excuse just as fake as his news. #FredoCuomo https://t.co/8G8yuY80CK pic.twitter.com/1gwVyDVCob

Gianni Russo, who played Carlo Rizzi in the movie, mocked Cuomo for making such a racial comparison, adding that his father, the late New York governor Mario Cuomo, “would smack him.”
