President Trump found himself in hot water yesterday after his early morning Memorial Day tweet set off yet another round of media criticism.
Here’s what Trump tweeted:
Happy Memorial Day! Those who died for our great country would be very happy and proud at how well our country is doing today. Best economy in decades, lowest unemployment numbers for Blacks and Hispanics EVER (& women in 18years), rebuilding our Military and so much more. Nice!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 28, 2018
Critics immediately pounced on the showboating nature of the tweet, which highlights many of the laudable accomplishments of the Trump Administration, but doesn’t properly emphasize the sacrifice of the men and women who have died in combat. Given how much President Trump often praises the troops, the tweet was slightly out of character. (RELATED: Trump Makes a Special Trip to Visit Section 60 Gold Star Families).
The responses pulled no punches…
What a classless, megalomaniacal, disrespectful message on Memorial Day….One of our most sacred days as a nation to reflect & honor those who SELFLESSLY made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🤬
What do you expect from a malignant narcissist like Trump. #MemorialDay https://t.co/8xOxtlS1dC

Trump is such an idiot – his Memorial Day message offended the troops just as much as he offends everyone else – self promotion when he should’ve been paying respects – does it ever end with this guy

Sickest, most morally unhinged Memorial Day message about sacrifice of soldiers given by a U.S. president, ever. #NotMyPresident

Your Memorial Day message is offensive. You are trying to pull attention to yourself on a day that is all about brave people who had to guts to serve in the military and died for their country. Compared to you, who had made-up bone spurs so you didn’t have to serve.

Most self-serving Memorial Day message ever… Thanks God a real American in Bob Mueller is coming for you….

Yikes! Talk about harsh. Of course, hardly a peep was made when former President Barack Obama tweeted a picture honoring Memorial Day that featured himself in it.
We can never truly repay the debt we owe our fallen heroes. But we can remember them, honor their sacrifice, and affirm in our own lives those enduring ideals of justice, equality, and opportunity for which generations of Americans have given that last full measure of devotion. pic.twitter.com/pRxwmaMClL

We know liberals have double standards. Regardless, Trump may have gotten the message. During the laying of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, he delivered a somber yet powerful message to all who have sacrificed their lives for American freedom. There were no self-congratulations here. Just a heartfelt tribute to fallen heroes. Take a look:

So powerful! Here was the best part of the speech: “To every family member of the fallen, I want you to know that the legacy of those you’ve lost does not fade with time but grows only more powerful. Their legacy does not, like a voice in the distance, become a faint echo but instead their legacy grows deeper.”
Amen to that.
