Trump Invites Michigan Democrat Who Credited Him With Saving Her Life To Join Republican Party

Trump Whitsett

Michigan State Representative Karen Whitsett, a Democrat who credited Donald Trump with saving her life after she contracted coronavirus, is being invited to switch parties by the President himself.

“Should join the Republican Party!” Trump emphatically declared in the wee hours Friday morning.

The President was responding to a report that Whitsett is being censured by her own party for daring to thank him for his efforts in saving American lives, hers in particular.

Trump Saved Her, She Thanked Him

Last month, Whitsett was suffering from coronavirus when she decided to take hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug oft-mentioned by the President as a possible remedy.

“It has a lot to do with the president … bringing it up,” the Michigan Democrat said in describing her recovery after taking the drug. “He is the only person who has the power to make it a priority.”

When The Detroit Free Press asked her if she thought Trump’s recommendation might have helped save her life, she replied, “Yes, I do. I do thank him for that.”

Met With the President

So grateful was Whitsett, that she met with President Trump personally to share her story.

For that crime, her own party in Michigan is vowing to punish her.

Whitsett tweeted the story to the President saying, “This what the [Democratic] party is doing to me for saying “[thank] you.”

She included a screenshot of a report indicating the Democrats were seeking a formal resolution to censure.

Apparently, Saving Lives is Political

According to the Detroit News, Jonathan Kinloch, chairman of the 13th Congressional District Democratic Party Organization, is spearheading the effort to censure Whitsett.

“At the end of the day, we have political systems,” Kinloch said, highlighting a fact that has nothing to do with why Whitsett thanked the President. “We have political parties, and political parties exist for a reason.”

The resolution will bar Whitsett from receiving the group’s endorsement in the next election, and prevent her from taking part in activities for two years.

In other words, no fundraising or aid in getting re-elected. She’s effectively getting the boot.

GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel tweeted that because Whitsett “dared to say something positive about [the President], Michigan Democrat party bosses are effectively kicking her out of the party.”

“I did not know that saying ‘thank you’ had a political line,” Whitsett reportedly said at the White House meeting, indicating she was already being harassed by her own party at the time.

It is, as Trump suggests, truly disgraceful behavior.
