This smells like an abuse of power.
The New York Attorney General just announced that she is filing suit against a charitable organization run out of Trump Tower. The Donald J. Trump Foundation, the lawsuit alleges, has persistently engaged in illegal conduct. Not only is President Trump being targeted, but his children, Eric, Ivanka, and Don Jr., are also named in the suit due to them being board members of the foundation.
AG Barbara Underwood is asking a state judge to dissolve the entire foundation. “As our investigation reveals, the Trump Foundation was little more than a checkbook for payments from Mr. Trump or his businesses to nonprofits, regardless of their purpose or legality,” she writes in a statement. If she gets what she wants, President Trump will have to pay $2.8 million in damages – and he will be banned from any position with a New York-based non-profit for the next 10 years.

Trump has already lashed out over Twitter:
The sleazy New York Democrats, and their now disgraced (and run out of town) A.G. Eric Schneiderman, are doing everything they can to sue me on a foundation that took in $18,800,000 and gave out to charity more money than it took in, $19,200,000. I won’t settle this case!…

….Schneiderman, who ran the Clinton campaign in New York, never had the guts to bring this ridiculous case, which lingered in their office for almost 2 years. Now he resigned his office in disgrace, and his disciples brought it when we would not settle.

Savage!
The timing of this is curious. It’s true that the former New York Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, left the office in disgrace recently after his strange sexual behavior was revealed. It also true that Trump had actually predicted that Schneiderman would eventually be busted for his lewd acts. If Trump is right and this case sat in the AG’s office for two years without being touched, why is it being brought up now? The timing hasn’t been explained.
Looks like we’ll have to wait for the case to hit the court to figure out the true motivation.
